Winn Mavericks varsity football team under the direction of head football coach Eric Villaseñor kicked off their respective quest for the District 14-5A Division I title on Friday, September 28, 2018 when they entertained the Laredo Martin Tigers in a 7:30 PM district opening gridiron encounter at the Eagle Pass ISD Student Activity Center Cozel Foster-Veterans Memorial Stadium which was packed on the home side with the famed Mavericks Nation in attendance who always come to stadium early ready support their beloved C.C. Winn Mavericks varsity football team.

Battle for District 29-6A Supremacy

The much anticipated matchup for District 29-6A Supremacy between the current 8th ranked team in Region IV in Class 6A the mighty Eagle Pass Eagles under the direction of head coach Tom Gonzalez and the pre-season district favorite the Laredo United Longhorns with their patented aerial show took center stage on Friday, September 28, 2018 at the Laredo United ISD Bill Johnson Student Activity Center with a 7:30 PM district opening encounter. The mighty Eagle Pass Eagles entered this district opening gridiron game sporting an unblemished overall season record of 4-0 while the home standing Longhorns came in sporting an overall season mark of 2-2. Laredo United seized momentum in the second half with 29 unanswered points to hand the Eagles their first defeat of the season by the final score of 39 to 20.

While most football district titles in the State of Texas are decided until the final week of the season, District 29-6A could very well be the exception when the current 8th ranked team in Region IV Class 6A the mighty Eagle Pass Eagles under the direction of head coach Tom Gonzalez venture to Laredo, Texas on Friday, September 28, 2018 to kickoff their quest for the district crown against the pre-season favorite the Laredo United Longhorns with their relentless aerial show in a 7:30 PM marquee matchup at the Laredo United ISD Student Activity Center.

This game could have all the makings of a third round playoff matchup when these two teams collide out on the gridiron with probably the district title already on the line. The mighty Eagle Pass Eagles will enter this district opening gridiron encounter sporting an unblemished overall season record of 4-0 while the home standing Longhorns will come in sporting an overall season mark of 2-2.

This key district high school football game should produce some interesting matchups with the likes of the Eagle Pass Eagles double-edge sword “War Eagle” offense battling against the Laredo United Longhorns defensive unit and the featured attraction of the evening will feature the United Longhorns pass happy offense tangling with the Eagle Pass Eagles stout, aggressive very fast and hard hitting “Land Sharks” defensive units one of the premier defensive units in the entire Region IV Class 6A.

Winn Mavericks’ varsity football team mentored by head coach Eric Villasenor culminated their 2018 non-district portion of their schedule on Friday, September 21, 2018 when they boarded their charter busses and ventured to Pearsall, Texas to tangle with the Pearsall Mavericks in a 7:30PM non-district gridiron matchup. The visiting C.C. Winn Mavericks currently ranked 9th in Region IV Class 5A by Athletics Department.com came in sporting an overall season record of 2-1 while the home standing Pearsall Mavericks ventured into this contest with an overall season record of 1-1. The Pride of Southern Maverick County the mighty C.C. Winn Mavericks dominated this game both offensively and defensively to improve their overall season record to 3-1 by coming away victorious over the Pearsall Mavericks by the final score of 21 to 0.

The Eagle Pass Eagles varsity football team mentored by head football coach Tom Gonzalez will conclude their 2018 non-district portion of their schedule by hosting the San Antonio, McCollum Cowboys in a 7:30 PM non-district gridiron encounter at the Eagle Pass ISD Student Activity Center Cozel Foster-Veterans Memorial Stadium. This game is designated as Parent’s Night with the Eagles players paying tribute to their respective parent’s during pre-game festivities. With 9:06 remaining before halftime the game was delayed by lightning in the area. After two 30 minute delays the rest of the game was cancelled by mutual agreement of both head coaches. Since this was a non-district game the rest of this contest does not have to resume therefore the Eagles improve their overall season record to 4-0.
