The mighty C.C. Winn Lady Mavericks varsity girls’ softball team under the leadership of head coach J.J. Iracheta, Jr., and assistant coaches Tony Martinez, Johnny Hernandez, Corina Benavidez and Roly Salinas returned to the diamond on Friday, March 23, 2018 where they entertained the San Antonio McCollum Lady Cowgirls in a 7:00 PM District 29-5A softball matchup at the Eagle Pass ISD Student Activity Center softball field.. The visiting McCollum Lady Cowgirls ventured into this contest sporting a district record of 0-2 while the home standing C.C. Winn Lady Mavericks came with a district mark of 1-1.

The visiting McCollum Lady Cowgirls tallied their only run of the game in the top of the very first inning on a one out single by Nicolette Ramirez followed by an RBI double by Maryiah Gomez. The lead was short lived however as the home standing Lady Mavericks answered back with a lone game tying run in the bottom of the first with Daniela Rodriguez blasting a one out triple, Aria Soto followed with a solid RBI double to drive in Daniela Rodriguez with the game tying run.

In the bottom of the second the proud Lady Mavericks supported by the famed Maverick Nation in attendance took the lead for good in this game with a four run production with Kayla Sifuentes and Kiana Diaz drawing back to back base on balls, with one out Thiana Reyes delivering a ringing RBI double to drive in Kayla Sifuentes and Kiana Diaz, with two outs Daniel Rodriguez was hit by a pitch, Ariana Soto on an error by the centerfielder to tally both Thiana Reyes and Daniela Rodriguez to give the Lady Mavericks a 5 to 1 lead over McCollum.

The powerful Lady Mavericks then proceeded to bring an early conclusion to this game with a huge eight run output in the bottom of the fourth inning by a booming fence rattling three RBI triple off the bat of pinch hitter Ana Lopez. McCollum went down quietly in the top of the fifth enabling the Lady Mavericks to come away with the dominating 13 to 1 victory via the 10-run rule with Angie Escamilla taking the pitching victory hurling five complete innings allowing just one run and scattered four harmless hits on the night. The victory propels the Lady Mavericks to take sole possession of third place in the district race with a district mark of 2-1 and thus improve their overall season record to 18 wins with 8 losses.
