The C.C. Winn Lady Mavericks varsity girls’ basketball team mentored by head coach Paulo Valero and assistant coaches Federico Paniagua, Julio Cumpian and Tonya Rosas ventured to the Rio Grande Valley on Thursday, December 28, 2017 to compete in the high caliber McAllen Memorial House of Pain Basketball Tournament.  The Lady Mavericks managed to win two out of their five games at the tournament but barely lost a couple of games that just as easily could have gone the other way despite the fact they were forced to play their last four games of this tournament shorthanded due to injuries to one of their leading scorers Gyselle Rangel.

The Lady Mavericks gained valuable experience with the start of the District 29-5A hoops battles scheduled to get underway this coming Friday, January 5, 2018 when the mighty C.C. Winn Lady Mavericks entertain the Floresville Lady Tigers in a 6:30 PM district opening matchup at the C.C. Winn High School gymnasium. GO LADY MAVERICKS! BEAT THE LADY TIGERS!

“Overall the tournament had us facing some tough teams.” Stated head coach Paulo Valero. “We managed to play our best most complete game of the season vs McAllen and our girls learned how to play without Point Guard Gyselle Rangel. I want to personally invite everyone out on Friday January 5th as we open up district play vs. Floresville at 2 pm at CC Winn High School. It's time that Eagle Pass Basketball gets back to the promise land, and it's going to take our entire community to do it. “
