Lady Eagles sweep series over

La Joya Lady Coyotes in two straight

2019 Bi-District Champions

Face Harlingen South in Area Round

The high powered and potent undefeated District 29-6A champion Eagle Pass Lady Eagles varsity softball team who are currently ranked 25th in the State of Texas in Class 6A with an overall season record of 23-7 ventured to La Joya, Texas on Friday, April 26, 2019 to open their best two out of three series for the UIL Region IV Class 6A Bi-District series against the La Joya Lady Coyotes the District 30-6A fourth place representative with an overall season record of 18-14 in a 7:00 PM softball diamond encounter.

Paced by their dynamic power hitting Thunder and Lightning duo of Alex Martinez and Brooke Diaz as well as the Golden pitching arm of Kaitlin Galvan the powerful Lady Eagles swept the best of three series against the La Joya Lady Coyotes in two straight by the respective scores of 11 to 1 and 10 to 5 to capture the UIL Region IV Bi-District championship and thus earned the right to advance to the post season Area Round. The Lady Eagles blasted a total of six homeruns in this series.

GAME 1

The talent laden Eagle Pass Lady Eagles erupted with an 11 run production on a 12 hit barrage to take the series opener by the final score of 11 to 1 over the La Joya Lady Coyotes in support of their stellar starting and game winning pitcher Kaitlin Galvan who allowed just one unearned run and scattered three base hits to earn her 21st pitching victory of the season. The Lady Eagles showcased their might in the hitting department with the long ball in this game blasting three homeruns including a solo homerun by Kaylynne Ruiz, a two run homerun by team and district long ball leader Alex Martinez as well as a two run homerun by Brooke Diaz who had a perfect night at the plate going 3 for 3 with 4 runs scored and drove in 3 runs and barely missed hitting for the cycle as she belted a single, an RBI triple and a two run homerun. The 2019 mighty Eagle Pass Lady Eagles improve their overall season record to 24-7 and are currently riding a 17 game winning streak.

GAME 2

In game 2 of the best of 3 series the mighty Eagle Pass Lady Eagles varsity softball team returned home on Saturday, April 27, 2019 to host the La Joya Lady Coyotes in a 3:00 PM matchup at the Eagle Pass ISD Student Activity Center softball field with the Loyal Legion of Lady Eagles followers in attendance ready to support their beloved Lady Eagles.

The visiting Lady Coyotes took the early lead with a lone unearned run in the top of the first on a pair of hits and a costly Lady Eagles error but the proud home standing Lady Eagles quickly answered with a game tying run in the bottom of the first with Leslie Martinez leading off the frame with a single and quickly stole second, with one out Alex Martinez belted a game tying RBI double to drive in Leslie Martinez.

In the bottom of the third the Lady Eagles broke up the one all tie with a five run output with Leslie Martinez reaching on a single, Brooke Diaz followed with a booming two run homerun to straight away center giving her six homeruns on the season, Alex Martinez blasted a double off the fence, with one out Lashay Reyes connected with a single to put runners at the corners. Alyssa Lara followed with an RBI single to bring home Alex Martinez, Cristabel Martinez came through with and RBI single to drive in Lashay Reyes, Paola Daniel reached on a fielder’s choice but Alyssa Lara was forced out at third on the play, Katie Galvan reached on an error by the right fielder to bring home Paola Daniel to give the Lady Eagles a 6 to 1 lead in this game.

In the bottom of the fourth the Lady Eagles padded their lead with a pair of runs with Leslie Martinez reaching on an error and immediately stole second and third respectively, Brooke Diaz lifted an RBI sacrifice fly to left field to bring home Leslie Martinez, Alex Martinez followed with a solo homerun blast giving her a team and district high 8 homeruns on the season to give the Lady Eagles an 8 to 1 lead.

The Lady Eagles closed out their hitting and scoring assault with another pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth with Alyssa Lara leading off the frame with a solo homerun blast, with one out Paola Daniel connected with a double, Katie Galvan followed with a screaming infield single that was too hot to handle by the La Joya shortstop, Leslie Martinez reached on an error to load the bases, Brooke Diaz hit into an RBI fielder’s choice to drive in Paola Daniel with the 10th run of the game for the Lady Eagles.

The La Joya Lady Coyotes did not go down quietly in the top of the seventh tallying four runs in that frame off of Lady Eagles relief pitcher Alyssa Galvan on a pair of hits, a walk and two costly Eagle Pass Lady Eagles error before Lady Eagles starting and game winning hurler Kaitlin Galvan who hurled five and two-thirds innings allowing just one unearned run and scattered three hits reentered the game to get the final two outs of the game to earn her 22nd pitching victory of the season as the Lady Eagles improved their overall season record to 25 wins with 7 losses and are riding an 18 game winning streak.
