The mighty Eagle Pass Eagles varsity baseball team under the guidance of head coach Reynol Mendoza who are currently in the midst of contending for the district title entertained the current district leading Laredo Alexander Bulldogs in a key 7:00 PM baseball diamond encounter on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at the Eagle Pass ISD Student Activity Center-Polo Moncada Baseball Field.

The home standing Eagle Pass Eagles settled the eventual outcome of this game in the bottom half of the very first inning feasting off of Bulldogs starting and game losing hurler Joseph Chavana pounding out five solid base hits to produce five runs to take the lead for good over the stunned Alexander Bulldogs with Isaac Gonzalez stroking a one out base hit, Braulio Rodriguez also singled to put runners at the corners, a throwing error by the Bulldogs catcher enabled Isaac Gonzalez to score with Braulio advancing all the way to third. Braulio then scored on a wild pitch. With two outs Hector Montoya slapped a single as well as Orly Garza, Edward Mendoza connected with an RBI single to drive in Hector Montoya, David Lopez reached on an error enabling courtesy runner Kevin Ochoa and courtesy runner Eric Heredia to score on the play to give the Eagles a 5 to 0 lead over the Bulldogs

The visiting Bulldogs could only manage to counter with a pair of runs in the top of the third but that proved to be the only damage they would muster on this night off of the stingy armed Eagles pitching trio of starter Roly Riza who went three complete innings, reliever and game winning pitcher Edward Mendoza who tossed two complete innings and reliever Sergio Lopez who toiled two complete Innings with all three combining their efforts to allow just two runs on four hits and struck out a total of 10 batters.

For good measure the Eagles tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth with Edward Mendoza leading off the frame with a solid double, David Lopez laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance courtesy runner Eric Heredia over to third, Jacob Ruiz followed with an RBI single to bring home courtesy runner Eric Heredia to give the Eagles the well earned 6 to 2 victory. The Eagles now take over sole possession of third place one game behind the district co-leaders United South and Laredo Alexander and half a game ahead of Laredo United.

The victorious Eagles have just one more district game remaining on their schedule and that is scheduled for next Tuesday, April 23, 2019 when they venture to Del Rio, Texas to tangle with the Del Rio Rams in a vital 7:00 PM District 29-6A baseball diamond matchup while United South, Alexander and United each has two more district game remaining and there could be a possibility of a four-way tie for the district title but as all former and current players know quite well is that the games will be decided on the field.

Eagle Pass Sports Central congratulates the mighty Eagle Pass Eagles varsity baseball team on your big victory over the Laredo Alexander Bulldogs and invites the Loyal Legion of Eagles faithful as well as the entire City of Eagle Pass, Texas to make the trip to Del Rio next Tuesday and support the mighty Eagle Pass Eagles against the Del Rio Rams. Go Eagles!
