The red hot high powered District 29-6A leading Eagle Pass Lady Eagles varsity softball team hit the road on Friday, April 12, 2019 for a trip to Laredo, Texas to tangle with the playoff contending Laredo United South Lady Panthers in a key 5:00 PM district softball diamond encounter at the United ISD Student Activity Center.

The home standing United South Lady Panthers ventured into this contest currently holding the fourth place slot in district action sporting an overall season record of 13 wins with 12 losses and a district mark of 4-4 while the talent laden visiting Eagle Pass Lady Eagles entered as the current district leader with an overall season record of 20 wins with 7 losses and a flawless district mark of 9-0 and riding a 14 game winning streak. Entering this game the Lady Eagles have outscored their previous 9 district opponents by the whopping score of 116 to 9.

The visiting Lady Eagles wasted no time in setting the tone for this contest erupting with a four output in the top of the first with Leslie Martinez starting the game reaching safely on an error and advancing to second on the play and the stole third, Brooke Diaz was hit by a pitch and then pulled off a double steal with Leslie Martinez scoring on the play and Diaz taking second, Alex Martinez drew a walk and pulled off a double steal with Brooke Diaz stealing third and Alex Martinez stealing second, Lorelei Morales lifted an RBI sacrifice fly to bring home Brooke Diaz, Kaylynne Ruiz stroked a single with Alex Martinez taking third on the play, Lashay Reyes reached on an error enabling Alex Martinez to score and Kaylynne Ruiz thrown out at home, Alyssa Lara belted an RBI double to drive in Lashay Reyes giving the Lady Eagles a 4 to 0 lead.

In the top of the second the Lady Eagles extended their lead with a pair of runs with Leslie Martinez stroking a one out single and promptly stealing second, Brooke Diaz followed with an RBI single to drive in Leslie Martinez, Alex Martinez connected with an RBI double to bring home Brooke Diaz to give the Lady Eagles a 6 to 0 lead.

The Lady Eagles continued the hitting and scoring assault in the top of the fourth with a three run production with Brooke Diaz getting bit by a pitch, Alex Martinez reached on an error and then pulled off a double steal with Brooke Diaz swiping third and Alex Martinez stealing second. Lorelei Morales reached on an error to bring home Brooke Diaz and Alex Martinez taking third on the play, Kaylynne Ruiz lifted an RBI sacrifice fly to drive in Alex Martinez, Lashay Reyes followed with an RBI single to bring home Lorelei Morales to give the Lady Eagles a comfortable 9 to 0 lead.

This was more than enough cushion for standout Lady Eagles ace hurler Kaitlin Galvan who was nearly flawless inside the circle as she tossed three complete scoreless innings and scattered just two harmless hits in this game to earn the victory, Alyssa Galvan worked three innings in relief allowing three unearned runs due to three consecutive errors by the Lady Eagles subs and one base hit.

The Lady Eagles added a lone run in the top of the fifth and then brought an early conclusion to this game with a three run outburst in the top of the sixth highlighted by pinch hitter Romy Flores’s two RBI triple to enforce the 10-run rule and coming home with the 13 to 3 victory to clinch at least a tie for the district championship and improve their overall season record to 21 wins with 7 losses and remained unbeaten in district play with an unblemished 10-0 mark with two games left in district action.
