Uvalde Lobos 7 to 2
Four errors in 7th prove costly

The premier matchup in District 28-5A took place on Friday, April 5, 2019 when the playoff contending C.C. Winn Lady Mavericks under the direction of head coach J.J. Iracheta, Jr., and assistant coaches Tony Martinez, Johnny Hernandez, Corina Escontrias and Fred Paniagua entertained the Uvalde Lobos in a key 5:00 PM softball diamond encounter at the Eagle Pass ISD Student Activity Center softball field, The visiting Lobos entered this game currently holding the fourth place slot in district play with a record of 6-6 while the Lady Mavericks entered in third place with a record of 6-5.
This key matchup proved to be quite a pitching duel with hitting and scoring at a very minimum but the home standing Lady Mavericks managed to break into the scoring column with a lone run in the bottom of the second inning with Briana Soto reaching safely on an error, Ana Lopez drew a walk, Mia Uriegas advanced both runners with a sacrifice bunt, Kayla Sifuentes belted an RBI single to drive in courtesy runner Sirena Montez to give the Lady Mavericks a 1 to 0 lead.
The Lady Mavericks carried that one run lead all the way to the bottom of the sixth when they padded their lead with a another lone run courtesy of Briana Soto’s solo home run to extended the Lady Mavericks lead to 2 to 0 heading to the seventh and final inning of play.
In the top of the seventh disaster struck as the Lady Mavericks committed four real costly errors that the Lobos capitalized to tally seven big runs to take a 7 to 2 lead over the stunned Lady Mavericks who were retired in order in the bottom of the seventh enabling the Uvalde Lobos to escape with the 7 to 2 victory over the Lady Mavericks who fall into a tie for fourth place in the district race along with the Floresville.
