Lady Mavericks trample over

S.A. Southside 15 to 7

The C.C. Winn Lady Mavericks’ varsity softball team under the leadership of head softball coach J.J. Iracheta, Jr. and assistant coaches Tony Martinez, Johnny Hernandez, Corina Escontrias and Fred Paniagua hit the road on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 with a trip to San Antonio, Texas to tangle with the Southside Lady Cardinals in a 7:00 PM District 28-5A softball diamond encounter seeking to resume their winning ways after a pair of costly heartbreaking setbacks. This key matchup proved to be quite a slugfest with the Lady Mavericks entire lineup getting at least one hit apiece banging out a total of 17 base hits in this game.

The home standing Lady Cardinals took the early lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second but the Lady Mavericks quickly countered with a lone run in the top of the third with Ariana Benavidez stroking a one out single and promptly stealing second, Ariana Soto followed with an RBI single to drive in Ariana Benavidez.

Southside Lady Cardinals tacked on a lone run in the bottom of the third but the proud Lady Mavericks responded with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth to tie up ye ballgame at three runs apiece with Martha Garcia reaching on an error and advancing to second on a wild pitch, with one out Kayla Sifuentes also reached on an error enabling Martha Garcia to score on the play, Anissa Salazar belted an RBI double to bring home Kayla Sifuentes.

The Lady Cardinals answered with a three run output in the bottom of the fifth to take a 6 to 3 lead over the Lady Mavericks nut the Pride of Southern Maverick County fought back to take the lead with a four run production in the top of the sixth with Martha Garcia leading off the frame with a single followed by Ana Lopez who also connected with a single, Kayla Sifuentes laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance both runners over to second and third, Anissa Salazar stroked an RBI single to drive in Martha Garcia, Thiana Reyes belted a two RBI double to bring home Ana Lopez and Anissa Salazar, Thiana Reyes would later come home to score to give the Lady Mavericks a 7 to 6 lead over the stunned Lady Cardinals.

For good measure the mighty Lady Mavericks closed the show erupting with a huge eight run outburst in the top of the seventh while the Lady Cardinals could only answer with one lone run in the bottom of the seventh giving the Lady Mavericks well earned and much deserved 15 to 7 victory over the Southside Lady Cardinals to remain in third place in the district race and improved their overall season record to 17 wins with 7 losses and their district record to 6-5 to remain a half game lead over the Uvalde Lobos.

The C.C. Winn Lady Mavericks will return to their district softball diamond battles this coming Friday, April 5, 2019 where they will host the Uvalde Lobos in a 5:00 pm district matchup at the Eagle Pass ISD Student Activity Center softball field in a game of vital importance in the District 28-5A standings. Eagle Pass Sports Central invites the famed Maverick Nation as well as the entire community of Eagle Pass, Texas to come out and support the mighty playoff contending C.C. Winn Lady Mavericks’ varsity softball team. Go Lady Mavericks! Beat the Lady Lobos!
