Brooke Diaz collects 100th all-time RBI

The talent laden and power hitting District 29-6A tri-leading Eagle Pass Lady Eagles entertained their fellow district tri-leading Laredo United South Lady Panthers in a 7:30 p.m. marquee matchup at the Eagle Pass ISD Student Activity Center softball field on Friday, March 15, 2019 with the ever present Loyal Legion of Lady Eagles followers in attendance ready to cheer and support their beloved Lady Eagles.

The vastly improved United South Lady Panthers broke into the scoring column with a lone run in the top half of the first inning on a one out base hit by Audrey Renteria who promptly stole second, with one out Sandra Perez connected with an RBI single to bring home Audrey Renteria, Sandra Perez later scored on an RBI groundout.

The home standing Lady Eagles quickly countered with a five run production in the bottom of the first to take the lead for good in this game with Leslie Martinez drawing a base on balls, Brooke Diaz was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second, with one out Lorelei Morales connected with a two RBI double to drive in Leslie Martinez and Brooke Diaz, Kaylynne Ruiz followed with an RBI triple to bring home Lorelei Morales, with two outs Alyssa Lara stroked an RBI single to tally Kaylynne Ruiz with Alyssa Lara getting into scoring position by stealing second, Paola Daniel belted an RBI single to bring home Alyssa Lara to give the Lady Eagles a 5 to 1 lead over the Lady Panthers.

In the bottom of the second the Lady Eagles padded their lead with a four run output with Leslie Martinez drawing a one out walk and immediately stealing second, Brooke Diaz blasted and RBI double to bring home Leslie Martinez which marked a major milestone in the stellar high school varsity softball career of Brooke Diaz as it marked her 100th all-time RBI, Alex Martinez followed with a ringing RBI double to drive in Brooke Diaz, Lorelei Morales slapped an RBI single to bring home Alex Martinez, Lorelei Morales later scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Kaylynne Ruiz to give the Lady Eagles a comfortable 9 to 1 lead in this game.

This proved to be more than enough cushion for standout Lady Eagles starting and eventual game winning pitcher Kaitlin Galvan who continues her dominance inside the circle hurling four complete innings or work allowing two runs on three base hits and striking out five Lady Panthers batters to earn the pitching victory.

The Lady Eagles scoring and hitting assault continued in the bottom of the third as they tacked on three more insurance runs with Paola Daniel reaching on a fielder’s choice, Kaitlin Galvan helped out her own cause with a solid fence rattling RBI triple to drive in Paola Daniel, Leslie Martinez followed with an RBI single to bring home courtesy runner Romy Flores, Leslie Martinez later scored on a wild pitch to give the Lady Eagles a 12 to 1 lead thus putting the 10-run rule in play.

Laredo United South could only manage to tally one more run in the top of the fourth and then went quietly in the top of the fifth as the Eagle Pass Lady Eagles remain unbeaten in district play with the well earned 12 to 2 victory over the Laredo United Lady Panthers.
