The Eagle Pass Eagles varsity baseball team under the guidance of head coach Reynol Mendoza journeyed the Laredo, Texas on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 to open their quest for the District 29-6A baseball title by tangling with the Laredo United Longhorns in a 7:00PM marquee matchup against the Laredo United Longhorns at venerable Krueger Field.

This game proved to be quite a pitching duel between Eagle Pass Eagles starting pitcher Rey Rey Mendoza who went six complete innings of work o the mound allowing no runs, scattered three harmless hits and struck out 10 batters before being replace by Sergio Lopez on the mound and Laredo United Longhorns starting pitcher Adrian Castillo who went six innings on the mound allowed no runs scattered three hits with 10 strikeouts.

With hitting at a minimum and the game scoreless through seven complete innings of play the game headed into extra innings where the home standing Longhorns managed to tally the game’s only run on a bases loaded walk off base on balls to handle the gallant Eagles the heart breaking 1 to 0 loss. Neither starting pitcher would figure in the outcome of this game both deserve to be highly praised for their outstanding effort on the mound. Eagle Pass relief pitcher Sergio Lopez unfortunately was credited with the hard luck loss.
