Eagle Pass Eagles tie with

S.A. Antonian Apaches 9 to 9

Coming off a very impressive showing at the 33rd Annual Border Olympics Baseball Tournament, the Eagle Pass Eagles varsity baseball squad tutored by head coach Reynol Mendoza ventured to San Antonio, Texas on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 to square off against the San Antonio Antonian Prep School Apaches in a 4:15 PM non-district baseball diamond encounter.

The home standing Apaches jumped out to take the early lead in this game plating five runs in the bottom half of the second inning on three base hits, two walks, four wild pitches and two Eagle Pass errors off of Eagles starting pitcher Eric Heredia,

The Eagles countered with a lone run in the top of the third with Rey Rey Mendoza belting a two out triple and then reached home on a wild pitch. The Eagles then took the lead in this game with a big five run rally in the top of the fourth with Braulio Rodriguez leading off the frame on a hit by pitch, pinch runner Kevin Ochoa immediately stole second, Isaac Gonzalez reached on a base on balls, Victor Perry loaded the bases when he reached on an error, Jacob Ruiz stepped up to the plate and cleared the bases with a three RBI double with one out David Lopez stroked an RBI single to drive in Jacob Ruiz, Rey Rey Mendoza followed with a single to put runners at the corners, Mendoza quickly stole second to get into scoring position, Edward Mendoza followed with an RBI ground out to short allowing David Lopez to score on the play to give the Eagles a 6 to 5 lead.

The Apaches answered with one run in the bottom of the fourth to knot up the game at 6 all on a walk and two Eagle errors off of reliever Jacob Ruiz. But the proud Eagles quickly regained the lead with a three run output with Victor Perry reaching on a one out fielder’s choice, Jacob Ruiz brought in Victor Perry with an RBI single, Orly Garza followed with a single, David Lopez reached on an error allowing both courtesy runner Hector Montoya and Jacob Ruiz to score on the play giving the Eagles a 9 to 6 lead heading to the bottom of the fifth.

In the bottom of the fifth Lady Luck was not kind to the Eagles as the first two batters drew back to back walks, Apaches leadoff batter then crushed a three run home run to knot up the score at 9 all and that’s how the game ended as the umpires called the game due to darkness with stadium not having any lights. The Eagles overall season record now stands at 5 wins 1 loss and 1 tie.
