So. Tx./Valley Defensive Player of the Year

Eagle Pass Sports Central is pleased to announce that Eagle Pass Eagles standout senior outside linebacker David Kypuros the reigning 2018 District 29-6A’s Defensive Most Valuable Player has just capped off a truly banner year by being selected the 2018 Come & Take It Apparel Poll’s South Texas/Rio Grande Valley’s Defensive Player of the Year recipient beating out 24 other defensive players from around South Texas as well as the Rio Grande Valley and Texas Coastal area garnering a whopping total of 91,845 votes.

Other District 29-6A players garnering votes were Del Rio’s Kaylon Green who came in second in the voting with 86,074 votes, Laredo United’s Ramon Zamarripa who finished 9th with a total of1983 votes, Laredo LBJ’s Sergio Guel who came in 12th with a total of 1438 votes, Laredo Alexander’s Donovan Ethridge who placed 13th with a total of 1202 votes and Laredo United South’s Francosco Briones who came in 14th with a total of 797 votes.

During the 2018 season David Kypouros who is easily recognized as one of the top three best ever linebackers in the 99 year history of Eagle Pass Eagles varsity football program spearheaded the famed hard hitting quick swarming and stingy “Land Sharks” defensive crew mentored by Defensive Coordinator Roger Olivas that were the top defensive unit in district 29-6A who did not allowing a single point in their five home games this year and were recognized as one of the premier defensive squads in the entire UIL Region IV area.

David Kypuros led the mighty Eagles defense with a team high 142 tackles, 24 tackles for a loss recorded 9 quarterback sacks, caused 5 fumbles with 1 fumble recovery, had 2 interceptions blocked 4 pass attempts, had 2 blocked punts with 15 Big Hits and had 1 defensive touchdown to his credit.
