The high powered and highly talented Eagle Pass Babe Ruth League 13 year old all-stars mentored by manager Robert De La Garza and assistant coaches David Lopez, Tomas Garcia and Morris Libson Jr, captured the 2018 Babe Ruth League 13 year old division State championship this past weekend winning all three of their games in decisive fashion at venerable Moncada’s Baseball Field in the historic Ft. Duncan Park located in Eagle Pass, Texas.

Eagle Pass Babe Ruth League 13 year old all-stars now advance to the Southwest Regional Babe Ruth League 13 year old division Tournament to be held in Harrison, Arkansas from July 19-23, 2018. Eagle Pass 13 year old left fielder Kyle Gloria was selected the Most Valuable Player at the State Tournament for his outstanding play at the plate and on the field. Kyle Gloria is the son of former Eagle Pass Lady Eagle multi-sport standout Lucy Hooper-Gloria.

The victorious Eagle Pass Babe Ruth League 13 year old baseball roster is comprised by Donovan Becerra, Robert De La Garza, Jose Duran, Efrain Estrada, Pedro Fernandez, Kyle Gloria, Luis Kancheff, Dante Leija, Aidan Lopez, Diego Martinez, Juan Martinez, Alex Paniagua, Derek Ruiz, Issac Stanwick, and Alan Vielma.

Eagle Pass Sports Central congratulates the mighty Eagle Pass Babe Ruth League 13 year old all-stars as well as the entire coaching staff on your most impressive accomplishment at the 2018 Babe Ruth League 13 year old division State Baseball Tournament and wish each of you continued success at the upcoming 2018 Southwest Regional Tournament. We thank each of you for representing the Eagle Pass Babe Ruth League who is celebrating their 48th year anniversary as well as the entire community of Eagle Pass, Texas with pride, dignity and class.

GAME 1

In their opening round of the tournament the Eagle Pass Babe Ruth 13 year old all-stars were paired up against the Wharton, Texas13 year old squad. Wharton plated a lone run in the top of the first but the lead was quickly wiped away in the home half of the first as Eagle Pass answered with a pair of runs to take a 2 to 1 lead.

Wharton regained the lead with a big six run production in the top of the third to chase Eagle Pass starting pitcher Robert De La Garza off the mound. But the proud Eagle Pass Babe Ruth 13 year old all-stars supported by a fairly good sized crowd in attendance stormed back in the bottom of the third with a six run output themselves to take the lead for good in this game by the score of 8 to 7.

In the bottom of the fourth the Eagle Pass Babe Ruth 13 year old all-stars extended their lead with a four run rally and then managed to tack on an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth to eventually come away with a well earned 13 to 7 victory over the Wharton all-stars. The victorious Eagle Pass 13 year old squad took full advantage of 12 bases on balls issued in this game by the Wharton pitching staff.

GAME 2

In their second match of the State Tournament the Eagle Pass Babe Ruth year old all-stars were pitted against the longtime nemesis the Del Rio 13 year old all-stars. This game proved to be completely dominated by Eagle Pass pitcher Alan Vielma who hurled a brilliant performance on the mound allowing just one lone run and only one base hit to earn the pitching victory.

The Eagle Pass Babe Ruth 13 year old squad took the lead for good with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first and then put on a scoring and hitting clinic with a huge 10 run production in the bottom of the second to propel themselves in the tournament’s championship game with a convincing 12 to 1 victory over the Del Rio 13 year old all-stars.

GAME 3

In the championship game of the tournament, the home standing Eagle Pass Babe Ruth League `13 year old all-stars squared off against the Wharton 13 year old squad. The Eagle Pass Babe Ruth 13 year olds wasted to no time in settIng the tone for this game with a big four run output in the top half of the very first inning with Donovan Becerra, Robert De La Garza Aidan Lopez, and Alan Vielma each coming around to score a run in that frame.

In the home half of the first Wharton countered with what proved to be their only two runs in this game to narrow their deficit to a pair of runs. But the proud and powerful Eagle Pass Babe Ruth 13 year old all-stars answered right back with a three run production in the top of the second to take a comfortable 7 to 2 lead over Wharton. Kyle Gloria, Donovan Becerra and Aidan Lopez each plated a run in that frame.

For good measure, the Eagle Pass Babe Ruth League 13 year old all-star squad tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the top of the sixth to eventually come away with the State Tournament title with the 9 to 2 victory over the Wharton 13 year old team much to the jubilation of their faithful fans in attendance.
