The Eagle Pass Eagles varsity boys baseball squad led by head coach Reynol Mendoza and assistant coaches Henry Silva and Chris Villa ventured to Laredo, Texas on Thursday, March 29.2018 to square off against the current District 29-6A leading Laredo Alexander Bulldogs in a 7:00 PM marquee matchup.

The home standing Bulldogs tallied what would prove to be their only run of this game in the bottom half of the first inning on a hit by pitch, a double and a sacrifice fly off of Eagles starting and eventual game winning hurler Rey Rey Mendoza who tossed six and one-third solid complete innings of play allowing just the one run and scattered only two hits to the district leading Bulldogs.

In the top of the fifth inning the proud visiting Eagles erased their one run deficit with a pair of runs with Isaac Gonzalez reaching on a one out walk, Rey Rey Mendoza followed with a single, Isaac Roque reached n an error and was replaced on the base paths by the speedy pinch runner Eric Heredia, Braulio Rodriguez drew a bases loaded walk to bring home Isaac Gonzalez with the game tying run, Hector Montoya also benefitted from the erratic Alexander pitching staff who walked a whopping total of 11batters in this game with Montoya also being issued a bases loaded base on balls enabling Rey Rey Mendoza to trot home with the go ahead run to give the Eagles a 2 to 1 lead over the Bulldogs.

For good measure the Eagles tacked on a vital insurance run in the top of the seventh with Isaac Roque and Dee Andre Torres drawing back to back walks, Braulio Rodriguez grounded out into a 4-6-3 double play but Roque scampered over to third on the play, Hector Montoya connected with a clutch two out RBI single to drive in Isaac Roque to give the Eagles a 3 to 1 lead over the Bulldogs heading to the bottom of the seventh.

After striking out the first batter in the seventh and having a two strike count on the next batter Rey Rey Mendoza was lifted from his mound duties having reached near his pitch limit and replaced by relief hurler Dee Andre Torres who need just two pitches to retire the last outs of the game giving the Eagles the well earned 3 to 1 victory over the stunned Laredo Alexander Bulldogs, The victory thus moves the Eagle Pass Eagles into a three-way tie for the district lead along with the Southwest Dragons and Laredo Alexander Bulldogs each sporting an identical 6-2 mark in district play.
