The Eagle Pass Eagles varsity boys’ baseball team under the tutelage of head coach Reynol Mendoza and assistant coaches Henry Silva and Chris Villa currently perched in second place in the district race with a district mark of 4-1 ventured to San Antonio, Texas on Friday, March 23, 2018 to tangle with the Southwest Dragons who are currently tied for third place in the district race with a record of 3-2 in a key 7:00 PM baseball diamond matchup.

The home standing Southwest Dragons took the early led in this key matchup by plating a lone run in the bottom half of the first inning courtesy of back to back walks, a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly out to left field, The Dragons then managed to extend their lead with another lone run in the bottom of the second with a walk, a wild pitch and an RBI single to give the Dragons a 2 to 0 lead over the Eagles.

In the bottom of the fourth the Dragons padded their lead with a three run output to take a seemingly comfortable 5 to 0 lead over the Eagles who were handcuffed at the plate all game long managing to produce only four base hits in this game.

The Eagles finally broke into the scoring column with a lone run in the top half of the seventh inning to avert the potential shutout with Dee Andre Torres reaching safely on an error by the Dragons centerfielder. Torres would then scamper all the way to third courtesy of back to back wild pitches, with one out designated hitter Hector Montoya lifted an RBI sacrifice fly out to left field to bring home Dee Andre Torres home with the only run of the game for the valiant Eagles but the Southwest Dragons prevailed on this night by the final score of 5 to 1. The loss drops the Eagles into a three way tie for second place in the district race alongside the Southwest Dragons and Laredo United Longhorns each now sporting an identical district record of 4 wins and 2 losses.
