Lady Eagles trounce the

Del Rio Queens 17 to 6

Lady Eagles unleash 22 hit assault

The playoff contending Eagle Pass Lady Eagles varsity girls softball team currently perched in a tie for fourth place in the district race culminated their first round on district action on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 with a road trip to Del Rio, Texas to tangle with their longtime nemesis the Del Rio Queens in a key 7:00 PM softball diamond matchup. The visiting Lady Eagles came in sporting a district record of 3-3 while the home standing Queens ventured in with a district record of 2-4. The visiting Lady Eagles turned loose their potent lineup that produced a text book scoring and hitting exhibition on the Queens to come away with a lopsided 17 to 6 victory.

The visiting Eagle Pass Lady Eagles gave the fans in attendance a preview of coming attractions in the top half of the very first inning with a three run output with Heather Ruiz leading off the game with a walk, Leslie Martinez was hit by a pitch. Red hot hitting Brooke Diaz continued to blister the ball with a single to load the bases, Lorelei Morales followed with a two RBI single to drive in Heather Ruiz and Leslie Martinez, Alexandra Martinez singled to load the bases, Karina Martinez connected with an RBI single to bring home courtesy runner Paola Daniel to give the Lady Eagles a 3 to 0 lead over the Del Rio Queens.

The home standing Queens countered with a lone unearned run courtesy of a Lady Eagles error and then managed to narrow their deficit to a single run with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second. But the proud Lady Eagles extended their lead with a four run production in the top of the third with Lee Ann Dunn leading off the frame with a single, with two outs Heather Ruiz stroked an RBI double to bring home Lee Ann Dunn, Leslie Martinez followed with a double to put runners on second and third for the team’s leading RBI producer Brooke Diaz who came through with booming base clearing two RBI triple to drive in both Hear Ruiz and Leslie Martinez, Lorelei Morales followed with an RBI single to deliver courtesy runner Paola Daniel home to give the Lady Eagles a 7 to 3 lead over the Queens.

To their credit the Del Rio Queens refused to give up and batted back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third and a lone run in the bottom of the fourth to narrow their deficit to 7 to 6. The talented Eagle Pass Lady Eagles however decided enough is enough and went on a scoring and hitting assault in the final three innings of this game by outscoring the Del Rio Queens 10 to 0 over the last three innings in support of winning hurler Kaitlin Galvan who was relieved of the pitching duties in the last two innings by Leenette Krezdorn who hurled two complete scoreless innings in relief to give the Lady Eagles the 17 to 6 victory over the Del Rio Queens and take sole possession of fourth place in the district race.

Spearheading the Lady Eagles’ 22 hit assault were their top three hitters standout catcher Brooke Diaz who had a perfect night at the plate going 4 for 4 with 4 runs scored with 2 RBI’s as well as dependable right fielder Alexandra Martinez who also went 4 for 4 at the plate with 1 run scored and 2 RBI’s and stellar first baseman Lorelei Morales who went 3 for 6 at the plate with 1 run scored and 3 RBI’s
