Eagles pound the

United South Panthers 13 to 2

Braulio Rodriguez blasts 2 homeruns

The Eagle Pass Eagles varsity baseball team culminated a very successful three game Spring Break schedule on Thursday, March 15, 2018 when they hosted the Laredo United Panthers in a 2:00 PM District 29-6A baseball diamond encounter at the Eagle Pass ISD Student Activity Center Polo Moncada Baseball Field.

The visiting Laredo United South Panthers took the early lead in this game plating a lone run in the top of the first on a single by Bernard Pedraza a stolen base, a fielder’s choice by Jonathan Hernandez and a one out RBI single by Erik Ruiz. But that lead was short lived and completely annihilated in the bottom of the first.

The home standing Eagles brought out their hitting and big bats in the bottom of the first to produce a whopping 11 run production n the frame with starting pitcher Rey Rey Mendoza lead off with a ringing triple, Dee Andre Torres walked, Isaac Roque stroked an RBI single to bring home courtesy runner Eric Heredia with the game tying run. Torres later scored on an error, heavy hitting cleanup batter Braulio Rodriguez stepped up to the plate and blasted a two run homerun, Hector Montoya and Caleb Maldonado drew back to back walks, David Lopez connected with a single to load the bases, with one out Isaac Gonzalez also drew a base on balls to bring home Hector Montoya, Rey Rey Mendoza was hit by a pitch to deliver Caleb Maldonado home, courtesy runner Kristian Barcena later scored on a passed ball Dee Andre Torres singled to bring home Isaac Gonzalez, Isaac Roque hit a sacrifice fly to drive in courtesy runner Eric Heredia, cleanup batter Braulio Rodriguez came to the plate and blasted his second two run homerun of the inning to give the Eagles an 11 to 1 lead over the stunned United South Panthers.

In the bottom of the second the Eagles extended their lead with a pair of runs with Derek Ibarra belting a two out single, Isaac Gonzalez followed with a single of his own, both runners advanced to third and second courtesy of a wild pitch, Rey Rey Mendoze blasted a two RBI double to drive in Derek Ibarra and Isaac Gonzalez to give the Eagles a comfortable 13 to1 lead in this game.

The lead was way more than enough for starting and eventual game winning hurler Rey Rey Mendoza who hurler four complete inning on the mound allowing just one run and scattered three harmless base hits before being relieved by Alex Luna in the top of the fifth who surrendered one lone run before getting the final out on a comebacker to the mound with the Eagles taking the 13 to victory over the Panthers via the dreaded 10-run rule. The Eagles thus improve their overall season record to 7-12 and their district mark to 3-1.
