The marquee matchup in District 29-6A took center stage on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 when the Eagle Pass Lady Eagles softball squad entertained the perennially tough Laredo United Lady Longhorns in a key 12:00 Noon District 29-6A softball diamond matchup at the Eagle Pass ISD Student Activity Center softball field. Both teams entered this key contest sporting identical district marks of 2-2.

The home standing Eagle Pass Lady Eagles supported by the ever present Legion of Loyal fans wasted no time in setting the tone for this game by tallying a trio of runs in the home half of the very first inning. Leadoff Batter Heather Ruiz got things rolling belting a double, Leslie Martinez followed with a single, Lady Eagles standout catcher and the team’s leading hitter and RBI producer came through once with a booming two RBI triple deep into the right field corner, Lorelei Morales followed with an RBI single to bring home Brooke Diaz to give the Lady Eagles a 3 to 0 lead over the Lady Longhorns.

In the bottom of the second the Lady Eagles extended their lead with a pair of runs with Lee Ann Dunn stroking a single to lead off the frame, Kayla Ochoa laid down a near perfect sacrifice bunt to advance Lee Ann Dunn over to second, Heather Ruiz connected with an RBI double to bring home Lee Ann Dunn, Leslie Martine was hit by a pitch and Brooke Diaz drew a walk to load the bases, Lorelei Morales lifted a sacrifice fly to left field to deliver Heather Ruiz home to give the Lady Eagles a 5 to 0 lead in this game.

This lead would eventually prove to be more than enough cushion for stellar fire balling pitcher Kaitlin Galvan who hurled four and one-third innings to earn the pitching victory allowing no runs scattered two harmless singles and struck out 5 Lady Longhorn batters before being given the rest of the day off and replaced by Alyssa Galvan and later Leenette Krezdorn both of whom continued to preserve the shutout.

The Lady Eagles tacked on a lone run in the bottom of the third with Alexandra Martinez coming around to score that run. For good measure the Lady Eagles added a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth with Leslie Martinez leading off the frame with a triple, Brooke Diaz blasted a rocket shot for an infield hit that was too hot to handle to drive in Leslie Martinez. Brooke Diaz would later tally the final run of this game on a long sacrifice fly by pinch hitter Janessa Garza to give the Lady Eagles to convincing 8 to 0 victory over the Laredo United Lady Longhorns with Kaitlin Galvan earning the pitching victory with solid relief help from Alyssa Galvan and Leenette Krezdorn. The Lady Eagles thus improve their overall season record to 9-4 and their district mark to 3-2.
