The C.C. Winn Lady Mavericks varsity girls’ softball team under the guidance of head coach J.J. Iracheta, Jr. and assistant coaches Tony Martinez, Johnny Hernandez, Corina Benavides and Sergio Esquivel hit the road on Thursday, February 15, 2018for a trip to Seguin, Texas to compete in the three day Navarro Lady Panther Invitational Softball Tournament where they made the local history book by recording the program’s 200th all-time victory in their young history when they defeated Devine in their second game of the tournament by the final score of 10 to 5. Eagle Pass Sports Central congratulates the mighty C.C. Winn Lady Mavericks varsity girls’ softball team along with their entire coaching staff on recording the program’s 200th all-time victory!
The talented youthful Lady Mavericks won all of their six games at this tournament outscoring their opponents 60 to 13 in those six games. The Lady Mavericks got quality pitching inside the circle from both Amy Flores and Angie Escamilla coupled with a very potent offensive production and a near flawless defense. The powerful Lady Mavericks offense was spearheaded by the likes of Martha Garcia, Kayla Sifuentes, Daniela Rodriguez, the Soto twins Ariana and Briana along with Jasmin Ballones. Martha Garcia belted two homeruns in this tourney while teammate Daniel Rodriguez lasted one homerun. The entire Lady Mavericks roster contributed at the plate as pinch hitters, on the base paths as pinch runners as well as on the field where the entire roster got quality experience which will be beneficial once the upcoming District 29-5A action gets underway. The Lady Mavericks served notice to the rest of the district that they will be a serious force this year to contend for the District 29-5A softball title.
