Riding a three game winning streak, -the C.C. Winn Lady Mavericks varsity girls basketball squad under the leadership of head coach Paulo Valero and assistant coaches Federico Paniagua, Julio Cumpian and Tonya Rosas returned to the hard court on Friday, December 22, 2017 for a 7:00PM pre-holiday non-district hoops matchup against the visiting La Pryor Lady Bulldogs at the Eagle Pass ISD Student Activity Center Arena.

Following report courtesy of Coach Paulo Valero:

This win puts us at a 4 game winning streak heading into the tough McAllen Memorial House of Pain Tournament where we are matched up in pool play with McAllen High School, Harlingen South, and St. Joseph Academy with potential games down the line vs. Laredo United, Edinburg Vela, and McAllen Memorial.

We started off a bit slow vs La Pryor with a 3-2 lead for the first 4 minutes of the game. After a couple of substitutions we got on a roll and managed to take a 16-7 lead into the 2nd quarter behind two 3 pointers by Gyselle Rangel and 1 by Arleth Herrera. The 2nd quarter saw Karyme Marquez and Silvy Salazar combine for 12 out of the 17 points to give us a 22 point halftime lead.

The rest of the game we got to work on different things and see different lineups we hadn't seen or done all season. Every girl managed to get valuable minutes and 9 total girls entered the scoring book.
