Lady Eagles claw past the
Laredo LBJ Wolves 55 to 35

The Eagle Pass Lady Eagles varsity girls’ basketball team under the leadership of head coach Ruben Besa and assistant coaches Arturo Gonzalez, Norman Carreon and Rachel Menchaca entertained the Laredo LBJ Lady Wolves on Friday, December 15, 2017 in a vital 7:30 PM District 29-6A hoops matchup at the Eagle Pass High School gymnasium.
The home standing Lady Eagles came out simply shooting lights out scorching the nets with 19 points spearheaded by Paula Hernandez, Sophie Rodriguez and McKayla Hernandez in the opening period while the Lady Eagles stingy defense led by Brooke Diaz who dominated the rebounding department in this contest with 8 offensive and 6 defensive boards giving her a team and game high 14 rebounds in this game while teammate Sophie Rodriguez pitched in with 5 offensive and 6 defensive rebounds giving her a total of 11 boards.
In the second quarter f this contest the Lady Eagles continued to drain their respective shots from inside and outside the three-point arc as well as from the free throw line, the Lady Eagles managed to outscore the visiting Lady Wolves in that period 21 to 11 with Yoanna Velasquez contributing in the scoring department to take a commanding 40 to 15 lead at the halftime break.
Not needing to make hardly any adjustments during the break the Eagle Pass Lady Eagles reserves got in plenty of playing time in the second half of this contest with Cristabel Martinez and Cecilia Guerrero also contributing to the eventual victory over the Lady Wolves by the dominating final score of 55 to 35 to notch their first district victory of the season.
For the game the victorious Eagle Pass Lady Eagles shot 40.6% in the field goal department, 24.2% from beyond the arc and 45.5% from the charity stripe snared a total of 43 rebounds and registered 19 steals and dished out 19 assists with5 blocked shots..
