The C.C. Winn Mavericks varsity football team under the tutelage of head coach Eric Villasenor will hit the road this coming Friday, October 27, 2017 with a trip to the Alamo City of San Antonio, Texas to continue the District 29-5A gridiron battles with a 7:30 PM matchup against the Harlandale Indians at the venerable Harlandale Memorial Stadium located on 4200 Roosevelt Ave.  The home standing Indians will enter this game with an overall season record of 0-7 and a district mark of 0-2. The visiting Mavericks will venture into this contest with an overall season record of 2-5 and a district mark of 1-1.

The home standing Harlandale Indians employ a 50-50 type offense with their run/pass scheme with starting quarter back Christopher Perez#11 as their trigger man. Joining him in the back field will be running back John Navarro #21 a short hardnosed runner who will handle the majority of their running game. When the Indians take to the airway they will feature their receiving corps of Edward Beltran #88, Jacob Valdez #3, Steven Benitez #12, Franklin Castano #85 who is their best receiver as well as tight end Benjamin Perez #89.  The Harlandale Indians offensive line will be comprised by left tackle Nicholas Munoz #61, left guard Jose Calderon #76, center Trisdon Fuentes #66, right guard Jeremy Rodriguez #75 and right tackle Marcus Aragon #77.

The visiting C.C. Winn Mavericks will counter with their patented hard hitting defensive unit featuring aggressive defensive line with the likes of Ricardo Morales, Alexis Morales, Isaias Gonzalez and Alejandro Ontiveros needing to dominate in the trenches.  The Mavericks standout pair of hard hitting linebackers of Miguel De Los Santos and Ernesto Villasenor the team’s leading tacklers will need to step up and inflict punishing tackles.  The Mavericks swift secondary unit of Domingo Duran, Xavier Cerezo, Brandon Wheeler and Azael Rodriguez will be tested heavily and will need to produce some turnovers as well as provide run support on running plays.

Offensively the Mavericks offensive line of Jaime Rodriguez, Miguel Nino, Sebastian Lopez, Erik Del Bosque and Juan Hernandez will need to control the line of scrimmage and sustain their blocks both on running plays as well as provide protection in their passing scheme. Sophomore starting quarterback Ethan Johnston and running backs Fernando Zapata and Luis Rodriguez will handle the running attack for the Mavericks who will need to rely on ball control and eliminate mistakes in this game.  Ethan Johnston is averaging over 100 yards rushing per game in the last four games and has tallied seven rushing touchdowns in those games. When the Mavericks take to the airway they will utilize the services of slot back Jared Roiz, wide receivers Luis Olvera and Jose Blanco as well as tight end Isaac Villarreal.
