The highly touted Eagle Pass High School cross country teams under the guidance of head coach Juan Gonzalez ventured to Corpus Christi, Texas on Monday, October 23, 2017 to compete in the high caliber UIL Region IV Cross Country Meet.  The reigning District 29-6A back to back champion Eagle Pass Lady Eagles varsity girls have made history as for the first time in school history the youthful and talented Eagle Pass Lady Eagles varsity girl squad have earned a berth at the UIL State Cross Country Meet in Round Rock, Texas by finishing as the overall team runner-up champions at the 2017 UIL Region IV Cross Country Meet with a total of 133 points.

VARSITY GIRLS DIVISION:

Spearheading the highly talented youthful Lady Eagles was junior distance running sensation Shanya Luna who crossed the finish line in 5th place individually out of a total of 189 runners I the varsity girls division with a time of 19:01to earn her berth individually at the upcoming UIL State Cross Country Meet.  Teammate Monica Rivera also qualified individually by placing 11th with a time of 19:30, Jackeline Garcia came in 35th with a time of 20:14,  Andrea Garcia placed 37th with a time of 20:18, Ana Christina Alvarez came in 78th with a time of 20:57, Jenna Roiz placed 87th with a time of 21:07, and  Karina Fernandez came in 103rd with a time of 21:20 to round out the history making State Bound Eagle Pass Lady Eagles cross country team.

Sarah Wuest, New Braunfels, 19:00.8; 5. Shanya Luna, Eagle Pass, 19:01.4; 6. Gabriela Bosquez, Buda Hays, 19:22.7; 7. Julissa Farias, SA Stevens, 19:23.1; 8. Bailey Villalon, La Joya Palmview, 19:24.3; 9. Sydney Jensen, Smithson Valley, 19:26.3; 10. Alexis Quintero, SA Holmes, 19:28.1.

VARSITY BOYS DIVISION:

Also earning a berth at the upcoming UIL State Cross Country Meet was Eagle Pass Eagles varsity boys standout Nathan Kowalski who placed 14th overall individually out of 189 runners in the varsity boys division with a time of 16:12.  Overall the Eagle Pass Eagles varsity boys placed 13th in the overall team competition with a total of 316 points out of 24 teams.  Sergio Hernandez came in 32nd with a time of 16:40, ,Homar Perez placed 102nd with a time of 17:33, Ryan Rodriguez came in 105th with a time of 17:34, Jose Lugo came in 112th with a time of 17:38, Sebastian Villarreal placed 147th with a time of 18:06, and George Sanchez rounded out the squad finishing in 188th place with a time of 19:27.
