Seguin Softball Tourney

The Eagle Pass Lady Eagles varsity softball team journeyed to Seguin, Texas on Thursday, March 5, 2020 to compete in the Annual Seguin Lady Matador Invitational Softball Tournaments at the famed Huber Ranch Softball Complex The Lady Eagles played a total of six games during the tourney against some quality competition and came away with a record of 2 wins with 4 loses at this tournament.

The Lady Eagles’ lack of timely hitting woes continued as they were out hit 42 to 14 in this tourney were also out scored 32 to 10 and were shutout in three of their six games including on a No-Hitter at the hands of the Boerne Lady Hounds in Game 2 of the Tourney. The Lady Eagles were shutout in all four of their losses at the tournament.

GAME 1

The Lady Eagles kicked off tournament action against La Grange on the right foot by tallying a three run output in the bottom of the first with Paola Daniel leading off the frame with a walk, Lashay Reyes reached on a bunt single, Kaylynne Ruiz drew a walk to load the bases, Natalie Flores to swing a hot bat as she came through with a two RB single to drive in Paola Daniel and Lashay Reyes, with one out Cristabel Martinez drew a walk to reload the bases, with two outs Iliana Luna was hit by a pitch enabling Kaylynne Ruiz to trot home with the third run of the frame.

In the bottom of the fourth the Lady Eagles tacked on a pair of insurance runs in support of game winning pitcher Alyssa Galvan who hurled a three-hit shutout with the Lady Eagles taking the 5 to 0 victory.

GAME 2

Game two was a whole different story as the Lady Eagles squared off against the powerful Boerne Lady Hounds The Lady Eagles ran into the stellar pitching arm of Ava Rodriguez who hurled a No-Hitter while striking out a total of 14 Lady Eagles batters to take the 9 to 0 victory. The Lady Hounds were pace by second baseman Mackenzie Vasquez who blasted a pair of homeruns in the game as well as their season long leading hitter shortstop Brooke Sivek who went 3 or 4 at the plate to raise her batting average to a whopping .604.

GAME 3

Game 3 pitted the Lady Eagles against the Gregory-Portland Lady Wildcats in a game that proved to be quite a thriller as the Lady Wild Cats took the early lead with a pair of runs in the top of the first but the Lady Eagles countered with a four run production in the bottom of the first to take a 4 to 2 lead

In the top of the second the Lady Wildcats answered with two more runs to knot up the game at four runs apiece. In the bottom of the third the Lady Eagles regained the lead for good with a lone run with Karyna Perez drawing a walk and was successfully sacrificed over to second, Karyna then stole third and came home with what proved to be the game winning run on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Ashley Zamago.

In Game 4 the Lady Eagles were pitted against the perennially powerful and State Ranked New Braunfels Lady Cougars who held the Lady Eagles scoreless on only two hits each by Kaylyne Ruiz and Lashay Reyes

GAME 5

Saturday was not kind to the Lady Eagles as they lost both of their games with near identical two hit shutouts the first of which was a 9 to 0 loss to East Central with Karyna Perez and Paola Daniel getting one hit apiece.

In the finale of the tournament the Lady Eagles were shutout by New Braunfels by the final score of 8 to 0 with Valeria Salinas and Alyssa Galvan connecting for the only two hits of this game
