The District 28-5A third place seeded C.C. Winn Mavericks varsity baseball team under the direction of head coach Heriberto Roiz and assistant coaches Rene Ramirez, Jesus Gomez, Domingo Lopez and Rolando Salinas with an overall season record of 18 wins 11 losses and 1 tie are opened their best two out of three series for the UIL Region IV Class 6A Bi-District series against the Brackenridge Eagles the District 27-5A second place representative with a 14-13 overall season record in a 7:00 PM bi-district series baseball diamond encounter on Thursday, May 2, 2019 at the Eagle Pass ISD Student Activity Center-Polo Moncada Baseball Field. Game 2 of this best of three series is scheduled for Friday, May 3, 2019 at 5:00 PM at the SAISD Spring Sports Complex Field #1.

GAME 1

The opening game of this best of three series proved to be quite a pitching duel between Brackenridge starting pitcher Daniel Rodriguez and the Mavericks starting an eventual game winning pitcher Jorge Robledo who had a masterful performance on the mound in this game hurling eight complete innings to earn the extra inning pitching victory over the visiting Eagles allowing no runs, issued only one walk scattered two harmless hits and struck out 9 batters on the night.

The mighty C.C. Winn Mavericks tallied what proved to be the only run of this thrilling game in the bottom of the eighth inning when Brandon Villasenor belted a one out single, Jorge Romero followed with a single of his own enabling Brandon Villasenor to scamper all the way to third on the play, Mavericks reliable second baseman Jared Roiz stepped up to the plate and blasted a frozen rope into the right field corner for the game winning RBI single to bring Brandon Villasenor home with the game winning run to give the Mavericks the 1 to 0 victory over the Brackenridge Eagles..

GAME 2

Game 2 of this best of three series had the Mavericks journeying to San Antonio, Texas on Friday, May 3, 2019 to tangle with the Brackenridge Eagles in a 5:00 PM matchup at the SAISD Spring Sports Complex Field #1. The visiting C.C. Winn Mavericks dented the scoreboard first with a lone run in the top of the third with JP Ramos reaching on a one out hit by pitch and advanced to second on a passed ball, with two outs Mavericks starting pitcher Brandon Villasenor helped his own cause belting an RBI single to drive in JP Ramos to give the Mavericks the early 1 to 0 lead.

In the top of the fourth the Mavericks tacked on another lone run with Friday night’s hero Jared Roiz connecting with a one out single and scampered over to second on a passed ball, with two outs dependable Miguel Solis came through with a clutch RBI single to bring home Jared Roiz to extend the Mavericks lead to 2 to 0 over the home standing Brackenridge Eagles.

This proved to be more than enough cushion for Mavericks game winning hurler Brandon Villasenor who went the distance allowing no runs issued one walk hit two batters and struck out 10 batters to earn the pitching victory as the C.C. Winn Mavericks take game 2 by the final score of 2 to 0 to sweep the series in two straight over the Brackenridge Eagles to advance to the Area Round where they will the Boerne Champion Chargers
