2019 District 29-6A Champions

The undefeated district leading Eagle Pass Lady Eagles varsity softball team riding a 15 game winning streak continued their district battles on Saturday, April 13, 2019 with a 2:00 PM softball diamond encounter against the Laredo Alexander Lady Bulldogs at the Eagle Pass ISD Student Activity Center softball field. At stake for the Lady Eagles was a District 29-6A was a potential district clinching softball championship. Mission accomplished!

Paced by the superb pitching performance by standout starting pitcher Kaitlin Galvan and a solid hitting contribution by nearly the entire lineup plus a flawless defense the Lady Eagles defeated the Laredo Alexander Lady Bulldogs by the final score of 7 to 0 to clinch the 2019 District 29-6A softball championship with one more game left in their district and regular season schedule.

The home standing high powered Lady Eagles opened the scoring in this game with a lone run in the bottom half of the second inning with Lorelei Morales leading off the frame with a ringing double and promptly stealing third, with one out Lorelei Morales came home on an RBI groundout off the bat of Lashay Reyes to give the Lady Eagles the early 1 to 0 lead over the Lady Bulldogs.

In the bottom of the fifth the potent Lady Eagles extended their lead with a big five run production with Lorelei Morales leading off the frame with a single, with one out Lashay Reyes drew a walk, Alyssa Lara followed with a single to drive in Lorelei Morales, Cristabel Martinez reached safely on an error enabling Lashay Reyes to score on the play, Kaitlin Galvan helped out her own cause by belting an RBI single to drive in pinch runner Bianca Vielma, Leslie Martinez followed with a two run inside the park homerun scoring courtesy runner Emily Rodriguez ahead of her to give the Lady Eagles the comfortable 6 to 9 lead over the Lady Bulldogs.

This cushion was more than sufficient for standout starting and game winning pitcher Kaitlin Galvan who has been simply dominant all season long especially in district play hurling five brilliant complete innings of work inside the circle allowing no runs, scattered three harmless hits issued only one base on balls and struck out 7 batters to earn the district clinching victory for the Lady Eagles.

For good measure the Lady Eagles tacked on one more insurance run in the bottom of the sixth with stellar catcher Brooke Diaz leading off the frame with a single and then proceeded to steal second and third respectively, with two outs pinch hitter Joelyn Gonzalez came through with a clutch RBI singe to bring home Brooke Diaz with the seventh and final run of this game.

Lady Eagles’ relief pitcher Alyssa Galvan pitched a scoreless top of the seventh striking out three out of the four batters she faced to preserve the victory for the 2019 District 29-6A champion Eagle Pass Lady Eagles.

This marks the 15th outright district championship to go along with two co-district championship titles for the Lady Eagles in their illustrious storied 26 year history and will be venturing into the post season for the 21st year in their 26 year history and it also marks the 17th consecutive year they advance into the postseason. Eagle Pass Sports Central congratulates the mighty Eagle Pass Lady Eagles varsity softball team on winning the 2019 District 29-6A softball championship and wishes each of you continued success. The Eagle Pass Lady Eagles will culminate their respective 2019 district and regular season next Thursday, April 18, 2019 when they venture to Del Rio, Texas to face off against their longtime nemesis the Del Rio Queens in a marquee 7:00 PM matchup.
