Move into a 4th place tie in district

The C.C. Winn Lady Mavericks varsity girls’ softball team under the direction of head softball coach J.J. Iracheta, Jr. and assistant coaches Tony Martinez, Johnny Hernandez, Corina Escontrias and Fred Paniagua who currently find themselves in a three-way tie for fourth place in the district race alongside Somerset and Floresville resumed their district diamond battles on Friday, April 12, 2019 with a vital 7:00 PM matchup against the San Antonio Southwest Legacy Lady Titans at the Eagle Pass ISD Student Activity Center softball field.

The home standing Lady Mavericks with the famed Maverick Nation in attendance opened the scoring in this game with a three run output in the bottom of the first with Nissa Salazar drawing a leadoff walk, Kyla Sifuentes reached on an error Ariana Soto stroked a single to load the bases, Briana Soto followed with a single to drive in Nissa Salazar, Ariana Benavidez connected with an RBI single to drive in Kayla Sifuentes, Thiana Reyes reached on a fielder’s choice to bring home Ariana Soto giving the Lady Mavericks the early 4 to 0 lead.

In the bottom of the second the Lady Mavericks padded their lead with another three run production with Nissa Salazar blasting a leadoff double, with two outs Briana Soto drew a walk, Arian Benavidez was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Thiana Reyes drew a walk to bring home Nissa Salazar, Mia Uriegas connected with a two RBI single to drive in courtesy runner Sirena Montez and Ariana Benavidez giving the Lady Mavericks a 6 to 0 lead over the Lady Titans

The Lady Mavericks tallied a lone run in the bottom of the third with Amy Flores scoring that run. The visiting Lady Titans averted a possible shutout with a lone run of their own in the top of the fourth but that proved to be the only damage they would muster in this game.

The Lady Mavericks then sealed their victory with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth with Kayla Sifuentes reaching on an error, Ariana Soto drew a walk, Briana Soto belted a single to load the bases, Thiana Reyes was also issued a base on balls to drive in Kayla Sifuentes, with two outs Ana Lopez reached on an error to bring home Ariana Soto to give the Lady Mavericks the well earned 9 to 1 victory over the Lady Titans.

Angie Escamilla earned the pitching victory hurling six complete innings of work inside the circle allowing just one run and scattered four base hits before being relieved by Aria Soto who pitched a scoreless top of the seventh to preserve the victory. The Lady Mavericks thus improve their overall season record to 18 wins with 8 losses and even out their district mark to 7-7 to move into a tie for fourth place in the district race along with Floresville.
