Reynol Mendoza wins 300th Game

The playoff contending Eagle Pass Eagles varsity baseball team under the guidance of head coach Reynol Mendoza currently perched in a tie for third place in the district race ventured to Laredo, Texas on Friday, April 5, 2019 to take on the Laredo LBJ Wolves in a 7:00 PM District 29-6A baseball diamond matchup at the Laredo United ISD Student Activity Center. This contest proved to be quite a historical night as Eagles head baseball coach Reynol Mendoza earned his 300th head baseball coaching victory thus becoming the second winningest head baseball coach in the storied history of the Eagle Pass Eagles high school baseball program behind the legendary Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame inductee Polo Moncada.

The visiting Eagle Pass Eagles tallied a lone run in the top of the first to take the early lead with Isaac Gonzalez reaching on an error and coming around to score on a sacrifice fly by Braulio Rodriguez. The home standing Wolves countered with a lone game tying run in the bottom of the first.

In the top of the third the Eagles broke up the one all tie with a three run output with Jacob Ruiz leading off the frame with a walk and promptly stealing second, Isaac Gonzalez followed with a two RBI single to drive in Jacob Ruiz and Rey Rey Mendoza, Isaac Gonzalez the stole second but then was picked off at second for the first out of the inning, Braulio Rodriguez reached on a base on balls, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch and came home on a groundout by Victor Perry to give the Eagles a 4 to 1 lead.

The Wolves answered with a lone run in the bottom of the third which proved to be their final run of this game but the Eagles countered with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth with Edward Mendoza reaching on an error, David Lopez laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance Edward Mendoza over to second, Jacob Ruiz stroked an RBI double to drive in Edward Mendoza, Jacob Ruiz then stole third and came home on a wild pitch to give the Eagles a 6 to 2 lead.

In the top of the fifth the Eagles extended their lead with a big five run outburst with CJ Jimenez connecting with a one out single, Orly Garza was hit by a pitch, Edward Mendoza belted a two RBI single to bring home CJ Jimenez and Orly Garza, David Lopez stroked and RBI single to drive in Edward Mendoza, with two outs Rey Rey Mendoza blasted a two run homerun to five the Eagles a comfortable 11 to 2 lead,

For good measure the Eagles tacked on three more insurance runs in the top of the sixth with Roly Riza drawing a one out walk, pinch hitter Sergio Lopez belted a single, Edward Mendoza connected with a two RBI double to bring home Roly Riza and Sergio Lopez, pinch hitter Eric Heredia came through with an RBI single to drive in Edward Mendoza with the final run of this game as the Eagles came home with the well earned 14 to 2 victory over the Laredo LBJ Wolves.

Roly Riza earned the pitching victory with five solid complete innings of work on the mound and relief man Edward Mendoza who hurled a scoreless inning to close out the game.. The Eagle Pass Eagles will resume their district baseball diamond battles next Friday, April 12, 2019 where they will host the Laredo Nixon Mustangs in a 5:00 PM matchup at the Eagle Pass ISD Student Activity Center-Polo Moncada Baseball Field.
