The Eagle Pass Eagles varsity baseball team under the leadership of head coach Reynol Mendoza journeyed to Laredo, Teas on Friday, March 15, 2019 to square-off against the Laredo Nixon Mustangs in a 7:00 PM District 29-6A baseball diamond encounter at Veterans Baseball Field. Paced by the stellar pitching of ace hurler Rey Rey Mendoza and the hitting of Braulio Rodriguez and Victor Perry, the Eagles continued their winning ways defeating the Mustangs by the final score of 8 to 0.
The visiting Eagle Pass Eagles wasted no time in taking the lead n this game with a three run output in the top of the first with Rey Rey Mendoza and Isaac Gonzalez drawing back to back walks, Braulio Rodriguez followed with an RBI double to drive in courtesy runner Kevin Ochoa, with one out Hector Montoya belted a two RBI single to bring home Isaac Gonzalez and Braulio Rodriguez to give the Eagles the early 3 to 0 lead in this game.
In the top of the second the Eagles padded their lead with a lone run with Rey Rey Mendoza stroking a two out single and advancing to second on an error, Isaac Gonzalez connected with an RBI single to drive in courtesy runner Kevin Ochoa to give the Eagles a 4 to 0 lead which proved to be more than enough cushion for Eagles standout starting and game winning pitcher Rey Rey Mendoza who was dominant on the mound with six complete innings of work allowing no runs scattered three harmless hits issued no walks hit one batter and recorded 10 strikeouts to earn the pitching victory with Roly Riza hurling one scoreless inning in relief.
The Eagles continued their scoring production with a pair of runs in the top half of the fifth inning with Rey Rey Mendoza drawing a walk to lead off the frame, Isaac Gonzalez followed with a double advancing courtesy runner Kevin Ochoa all the way to third, Braulio Rodriguez who had a big night at the plate came through with a two RBI single to drive in Kevin Ochoa and Isaac Gonzalez to extend the Eagles lead to 6 to 0.
In the top of the seventh the Eagles sealed their victory with another pair of runs with Isaac Gonzalez leading off the frame with a double, Braulio Rodriguez followed with an RBI single to drive in Isaac Gonzalez giving Braulio his fourth RBI of the night, Victor Perry stroked a double with Braulio Rodriguez advancing to third on the play, Hector Montoya brought in Braulio Rodriguez home with an RBI groundout to second to give the Eagles the well earned 8 to 0 victory over the Laredo Nixon Mustangs.
