The C/C. Winn Mavericks varsity boys baseball team mentored by head coach Heriberto Roiz and assistant coaches Rene Ramirez, Jesus Gomez, Rolando Salinas, Jr. and Domingo Lopez hosted the Somerset Bulldogs on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 in a 7:00 PM District 28-5A baseball diamond home opener at the Eagle Pass ISD Student Activity Center Polo Moncada Baseball Field with the famed Maverick Nation in attendance ready to cheer and support the mighty Mavericks.

In the bottom half of the third inning the Mavericks dented the scoreboard first with a pair of runs with Miguel Solis reaching on a one out base on balls, Brandon Villasenor also drew a walk, Jorge Romero reached on a fielder’s choice with Brandon Villasenor being forced out at second and Miguel Solis scampering over t third on the play, Jared Roiz came through with a clutch two out two RBI single to drive in both Miguel Solis and Jorge Romero on the play to give the Mavericks the early 2 to 0 lead over the Bulldogs,

This would be more than enough support for Mavericks ace pitcher Brandon Villasenor who was once again very dominant on the mound hurling five complete innings scattering just four harmless hits issued no runs and no walks while striking out 10 batters on the night to earn the pitching victory.

The Mavericks then brought an early conclusion to this game by tacking on one final run in the home half of the fifth inning to enforce the dreaded 10 run rule on the Bulldogs with Salvador Lara leading off the inning with a walk and promptly stole second, with two outs Jorge Romero brought in the final run with an RBI infield hit to give the Mavericks the well earned 10 to 0 victory to improve their overall season record to 2 wins 3 losses and 1 tie.
