Coming off their season opening victory over the Laredo United Lady Longhorns this past Tuesday night, the C.C. Winn Lady Mavericks varsity girls’ softball team mentored by head coach J.J. Iracheta, Jr., and assistant coaches Tony Martinez, Johnny Hernandez, Corina Escontrias and Fred Paniagua ventured to Seguin, Texas on Thursday, February 14, 2019 to compete in the three-day high powered Navarro Lady Panthers Invitational Softball Tournament to be held at the famed Huber Ranch Softball Complex.

The mighty Lady Mavericks played a total of six games during this tournament finishing with a record of five wins and only one loss to come away with the tournament runner-up title thus improving their overall season record to 6-1 and getting quality pitching efforts from the likes of their entire pitching staff comprised by ace starter Angie Escamilla who was selected to the all-tournament team earning three pitching victories with only one loss, Ariana Soto who hurled one victory young sophomore Alexia Gutierrez who tossed a three inning No-Hitter for the other victory and Amy Flores who provided some vital relief duty with each pitcher getting in much needed quality work inside the circle that should pay off dividends as the race for the district title gets underway this coming Tuesday night.

The Lady Mavericks also got consistent overall team production both offensively and defensively from nearly their entire roster. Defensively the youthful Lady Mavericks turned in some excellent glove work out on the field. At the plate the Lady Mavericks got production from the likes of Ana Lopez, Martha Garcia, Ariana Soto, Briana Soto who was selected to the all-tournament team, Thiana Reyes, Kayla Sifuentes as well as Mia Uriegas, Kiana Diaz Ariana Benavidez, Sirena Montez, Kaytlyn Amaya, Alexia Gutierrez, Anissa Salazar and company who simply put the ball in play to make things happen and came up with clutch hits that produced vital runs via the traditional timely base hits, the long ball with young sophomores Alexia Gutierrez, Mia Uriegas both blasting homeruns against John Paul II Lady Guardians and fellow sophomore Thiana Reyes belting a homerun against KIPP Academy as well as manufacturing runs the old fashion way by executing bunts, steals and hit and run plays. The Lady Mavericks outscored their opponents 62 to 20 during tournament action and out hit their opponents 58 to 26.

Eagle Pass Sports Central congratulates the Pride of Southern Maverick County the mighty C.C. Winn Lady Mavericks varsity girls’ softball team on their outstanding accomplishment of coming home as the runner-up champions at the 2019 Navarro Lady Panthers Invitational Softball Tournament and wishes each of you continued success. The Lady Mavericks will resume their softball schedule this coming Tuesday, February 19, 2019 when they open their respective quest for the District 28-5A softball crown by hosting the Somerset Lady Bulldogs in a 7:00 PM district opening softball diamond encounter at the Eagle Pass ISD Student Activity Center softball field. Eagle Pass Sports Central invites the famed Maverick Nation as well as the entire community of Eagle Pass, Texas to come out to the stadium this coming Tuesday night and support the mighty C.C.
