Alexandra Martinez signs letter of intent

Eagle Pass Sports Central is pleased to announce that Eagle Pass Lady Eagles’ senior standout infielder Alexandra Martinez has signed her letter of intent to continue her athletic and academic career with the Howard Payne University Yellow Jackets softball program under the tutelage of head coach Jose Mata and assistant coaches David Foster and Tayler Rushing.

The Howard Payne University Yellow Jackets located in Brownwood, Texas are an NCAA Division III softball program and members of the American Southwest Conference who is comprised by the likes of Mary Hardin-Baylor, Concordia, Louisiana College, University of Texas-Dallas, Belhaven, Sul Ross State, Le Tourneau and University of the Ozarks, Hardin Simmons as well as Howard Payne University.

Last season Alexandra Martinez was selected to the District 29-6A all-district first team squad where she was very instrumental in helping lead the high powered Eagle Pass Lady Eagles all the way into the third round of the post season playoffs. During the post season she came through in the clutch with timely hitting as well as the long ball to drive in big runs for the Lady Eagles. Last season Alexandra Martinez produced a .311 batting average, scored 19 runs, had 18 RBI’s belted three homeruns including two against the perennial State powerhouse San Benito Lady Hounds in the post season and had a very respectable .486 slugging percentage at the plate. During the off season Alexandra Martinez continues to showcase her softball skills playing travel ball for the highly touted Southwest Lady Gators under the leadership of the famed Coach Bart Stevens.

Howard Payne University will be gaining a tremendous asset to their softball program in Alexandra Martinez a true team player who can hit for a high average as well as with power at the plate and is a clutch hitter coming through in crucial situations especially with runners in scoring position and is a stellar third baseman who possess a solid glove as well as a strong throwing arm.
