Lady Mavericks topple

Uvalde Lobos 46 to 35

The C.C. Winn Lady Mavericks varsity girls’ basketball team under the leadership of head coach Fred Paniagua and assistant coaches J.J. Iracheta, Jr., Roberto Hoffman and Tonya Rosas hit the road on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 for a road trip to Uvalde, Texas to tip-off against the home standing Uvalde Lobos in a vital District 28-5A hoops matchup.

In the opening period of this contest the visiting Lady Mavericks were able to dominate underneath the basket with layups and timely offensive rebounds to get second attempt shots with Destiny Sukue, Andrea Aldape and Ashley Cruz cashing in points for the Lady Mavericks to take a 14 to 7 lead into the second quarter.

In the second period the Lady Mavericks managed to knock down some midrange jumpers coupled with a pair of 3’s from long distance from Destiny Sukue to take a 26 to 17 lead over the Lobos into the halftime break.

In the second half of this contest the feisty Lady Mavericks continued their dominance on the boards both offensively and defensively with Andrea Aldape leading the Lady Mavs in the rebounding department with a team high 13 boards while teammate Ashley Cruz pitched in with 10 boards. Offensively the Lady Mavericks continued to force the issue with layups and transition baskets getting scoring production from Susana Guerra, Aislee Salazar, Arleth Herrera, DeShawn Nichols and Ariana Esqueda to come away with the well earned victory over the Uvalde Lobos bythe final score of 46 to 35.

Destiny Sukue led the Lady Mavs with a team high 10 points followed by Andrea Aldape with 9 points and teammates Ashley Cruz and Aislee Salazar each contributed 8 points apiece to the winning cause.
