The Eagle Pass High School Lady Eagles varsity girls’ soccer team mentored by head coach Hugo Garcia and assistant coaches Jose Rangel and Oscar Gonzalez hit the road on Friday, January 25, 2019 for a trip to the Alamo City of San Antonio, Texas to battle against the Sidney Lanier Lady Voks in a 7:00 PM non-district soccer matchup at the famed Alamo Stadium. The Lady Eagles came home victorious by the final score of 3 to 0.

Following report courtesy of Coach Hugo Garcia:

Opening the game we started off well as we were able to cross mid field and have Lanier on their toes. Nayeli Rocha did a good job of pressing the back line and Alanna Ojeda, Mariester Medrano and Maritza Gonzalez did a good job of winning balls and defending in the middle. We used our speed with our wings Atzimba Vargas and Mia Gonzalez to make deep runs into Lanier’s box. We created opportunities and earned a corner kick that Maritza Gonzalez nailed in for an Olympic goal to put us up 1-0 to close out the half we were disciplined in our pressure and Mia Solorzano got a steal deep in their territory and beat 2 defenders with some great moves and ripped a shot into the net to make it 2-0 at the end of the first half of play.

In the second half we relaxed a little offensively but defensively Our GKs Esmeralda Martinez and Yoanna Velasquez did a good job of protecting our goal. the back Line of Sam Cruz, Mariana Perez, Mariana Wong and Karen Zamarripa did a good job of possessing the ball finally mid way thru the half Karen Zamarripa threaded a through pass that Nayelli Rocha finished with the third and final goal to bring home the win by the final score of 3-0. The Lady Eagles thus improve their overall season record to 6 wins 8 losses with 1 tie.
