Lady Eagles geared to kickoff

26th Varsity Softball Season

The perennially talent laden and highly touted Eagle Pass Lady Eagles varsity girls’ softball program are armed and ready to inaugurate their 26th season in their storied history which has seen them venture into the post season in 20 out of their previous 25 seasons including a current 16 consecutive year run.

Year in and year out, the powerful Eagle Pass Lady Eagles varsity girls’ softball program has been recognized as one of the truly premier high school softball programs in Region IV Class 6A as well as in the entire State of Texas and this year is expected to be no exception. Last season the Lady Eagles defeated McAllen Nikki Rowe in the bi-district round followed that by defeating Edinburg to take the area round title before being eliminated by San Benito in the third round of the UL Region IV Cass 6A playoffs.

The 2019 Eagle Pass Lady Eagles will give their Loyal Legion of fans a preview of coming attractions with four scheduled pre-season scrimmages. The first of which is scheduled for Monday, January 28, 2019 where the Lady Eagles with square off with the C.C. Winn Lady Mavericks at 7:00 PM at the Eagle Pass ISD Student Activity Center softball field. On Saturday, February 2, 2019 they will travel to Castroville, Texas for a 4:30 PM scrimmage against the Medina Valley Lady Panthers. On Wednesday, February 6, 2019 the Lady Eagles will hit the road again for a trip to San Antonio, Texas for a 6:00 PM scrimmage against the tough San Antonio Reagan Lady Rattlers at the N.E.I.S.D. Softball Complex. The fourth and final scrimmage on their schedule will be on Friday, February 8, 2019 when they head back to San Antonio, Texas for a 7:00 PM scrimmage against former district foe the Southwest Lady Dragons.

The potent and highly touted Eagle Pass Lady Eagles will then kickoff their 2019 regular season campaign on Thursday, February 14, 2019 when they venture to Smithson Valley to compete in the three day high powered Annual Smithson Valley Softball Tournament. With South San and Southwest no longer in the district the battle for the district title should be a three horse race between the favorite Eagle Pass Lady Eagles, the Laredo Alexander Lady Bulldogs and the Laredo United Lady Longhorns but you never know anything can happen and anyone can beat anyone on any given night in this district.

2019 Lady Eagles Player Profile

Seniors

Brooke Diaz:: (Catcher) 3 year letterman, 1st team all-district selection and TSWA all-state honorable mention selection.

Team Captain Brooke Diaz has been a gift from the Softball Gods. She has exceeded all of our expectations since day one and has produced all-district numbers behind the plate and at the plate as the number 2 thru number 4 batter in the line-up. Brooke is well recognized as one of the premier catchers in District 29-6A, Region IV as well as in the entire the State of Texas they are going to have to depend on her talent and knowledge of the game in order for the Lady Eagles to advance to the UIL State Tournament and clinch the 1st place district title. Last season the clutch and power hitting Brooke Diaz was selected to the Texas Sports Writers Association all-state honorable mention squad. She also received the prestigious Eagle Award recognizing her as the top female athlete at Eagle Pass High School last year. Brooke Diaz led the team in batting average, Hits, RBI’s and Home Runs and only struck out once during the entire season. She has signed to continue her athletic and scholastic career with Louisiana Tech University.

Kaitlin Galvan: (Pitcher) 3 year letterman, 1st team all-district selection

Kaitlin has been another blessing from the above! She has really given the Lady Eagles the high notoriety and respect that is demanded from their pitching staff. As a freshman she was selected unanimously to the 1st team squad as a pitcher She has been a three-time first team all district pitching selection and is considered to be one of the top pitchers in Eagle Pass Lady Eagles’ softball history. In order for the Lady Eagles to win district and advance to the UIL State Tournament. Kaitlin Galvan’s continuous competitiveness and domination inside the circle will be relied on heavily. Last season the young, talented and experienced Kaitlin Galvan had an outstanding regular season winning big games as well as in the post season where she faced some top notch and high powered competition enabling the highly touted Lady Eagles to advance all the way to the third round of the playoffs.

Leslie Martinez: (Center Field) 3 year letterman, 1st team all-district selection

Leslie not only started as a freshman but directed the outfield at centerfield. This year we are projecting her as the lead-off position in our line-up and again taking over in the outfield. Leslie has the speed, knowledge, and bat to get us over the hump of the 4th Round and into the State Tournament.

Lorie Morales: (First Base) 3 year letterman, 1st team all-district selection

She’s our returning 1st base starter. She is expected come through in clutch situations lead the 2019 team back to where they been before and hopefully on to the UIL State Tournament. Great things are expected from her this coming season both at the plate and on field.

Leeann Dunn: (Utility) 3 year letterman, 2nd team all-district selection

Outstanding 3rd basemen, received 2nd Team all district. She plays the hot corner better than anyone. She might not be the tallest or strongest player but she is the one that will compete the hardest and gives you her best effort.

Alexandra Martinez: (Utility) 3 year letterman, 1st team all-district selection.

Alex has grown a lot from last year. From coming through in clutch moments to moving from position to position she has been a consummate team player that does possess some power to hit the long ball. Great things are expected from her this year.

Juniors

Paola Daniel: (Outfield) 1st year letterman

Paola has been able to produce positive numbers at the plate and provide a shutdown defense in the outfield. This year her softball skills will certainly be put to the test both in district and the post season playoffs.

Sophomores

Kaylynne Ruiz: (1st Base/ DP) 1 year letterman, 1st team all-district selection

Kaylynne last year during her freshman year contributed at the plate driving in big runs as was selected to the 1st team all-district squad as a designated player and is predicted to have an even better year this season.

Trisha Reyes: (3rd Base) 1 year letterman, District 29-6A Newcomer of the Year

Trisha has been able to come through in many pressure situations this past year. She has been able to adapt to the pitchers we have faced. Her positive attitude does truly help the team. She will be relied on to produce at the plate and on the field.

Alyssa Galvan: (Pitcher) 1 year letterman

Alyssa was a pleasant surprise last year early in the season when pitching for the J.V. team with her cool, pin point accuracy and speed that she brought to the game on a daily basis. She ended up earning a spot at the varsity level and never looked back. By the middle of district play, Kaitlin, Leenette and her were the big one-two-three punch that gave the Lady Eagles the opportunity to advance to Regional Quarterfinals! This year there’s no stopping her and Kaitlin from doing what they do best.
