Lady Eagles lose to

United South 67 to 24

The Eagle Pass Lady Eagles varsity girls’ basketball team under the leadership of head coach Ruben Besa and assistant coaches Arturo Gonzalez, Jesus Juarez and Norman Carreon returned to the hard court battles on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 for a 3:00 PM District 29-6A pots holiday Basketball matchup at the Eagle Pass ISD Student Activity Center Arena.

The quick and more aggressive visiting Lady Panthers jumped out to a quick 12 point lead against the undersized and shorthanded home standing Lady Eagles who only have 12 players on their roster which does take its toll by the second half while the opposition usually takes advantage by substituting freely to keep fresh legs out on the court.

In the second quarter the Lady Eagles made a run tallying 11 points in that period with scoring production from Aiyana Barrientos who finished as the leading scorer in the contest for the proud young Lady Eagles with 10 points followed by Paula Hernandez who tallied 5 points with Cristabel Martinez and McKayla Hernandez each contributing four points each in this game. As usual Brooke Diaz dominated the boards to lead the Lady Eagles in the rebounding department with a total of 13 rebounds and also recorded the only blocked shot for the Lady Eagles.

In the second half however the United South Lady Panthers widened their lead in this game by outscoring the visibly tired Lady Eagles 32 to 8 to come away with the 67 to 24 victory over a valiant Lady Eagles squad.
