The predominately youthful Eagle Pass Lady Eagles varsity girls’ basketball team under the tutelage of head coach Ruben Besa and assistant coaches Arturo Gonzalez, Jesus Juarez and Norman Carreon ventured to Laredo, Texas on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 to kickoff their respective District 29-6A hoops schedule against the perennially playoff bound, taller and more experienced Laredo United Lady Longhorns in a 6:30 PM district opening hard court encounter.
The taller and more athletic home standing Lady Longhorns raced out to a huge 31 to 5 lead over the visiting Lady Eagles at the end of the opening quarter but the proud undersized Lady Eagles did not fold and tried valiantly to battle back but the Lady Longhorns were just too strong on the boards added to their red hot shooting performance on this night taking the 78 to 29 victory over the Lady Eagles.
Standout Paola Hernandez led the Lady Eagles in scoring with 13 points and also recorded a team high 4 steals in this game. Cecilia Guerrero led the Lady Eagles in the rebounding department with 9 boards while teammate McKayla Hernandez registered the only blocked shot for the Lady Eagles.
