The visiting Laredo LBJ Wolves entered this contest with an overall season record of 1-4 and a district mark of 0-1 while the home standing Eagle Pass Eagles came in with an overall season record of 4-1 and a district mark of 0-1.

The quick pursuing hard hitting Eagles “Land Sharks” defense held Laredo LBJ to a measly 8 total yards rushing on 26 carries. Eagles quarterback Richie Luna threw three touchdown passes and had nearly 300 yards passing in this game.

After an exchange of punts on the Wolves and Eagles respective first series of downs, the Eagle Pass War Eagle” offense began to crank up their ground and aerial attack upon the LBJ Wolves defense as they mounted a 76 yard scoring drive that was capped off with a 30 yard swing pass from quarterback Richie Luna to young freshman tailback Jose Hernandez who tight roped down the left sideline all the way to pay dirt with 3:51 showing on the first quarter clock. Eagles left footed place kicker Erick Ramirez tacked on the point after to give the Eagles the early 7 to 0 lead in this game.

In the Eagles next offensive series the Eagles utilized their passing game to maneuver down the field as they orchestrated an impressive 80 yard scoring drive that culminated with a 26 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Richie Luna to wide receiver Oscar Castillon with 7:19 left before halftime. Late in the first half the Eagles came within an eyelash of adding another score when standout linebacker David Kypuros laid a big hit on the LBJ Wolves ball carrier causing him to cough up the pigskin and safety Ryan Chisum made a shoestring fumble recovery and broke several tackles before being barely brought down by the last man standing on his way to the end zone but the Eagles managed to hold on to their 14 to 0 lead over the Wolves heading to their halftime break.

The Eagles received the second half kickoff and quickly struck with a six play 57 yard scoring drive that was punctuated with a 42 yard touchdown pass from Richie Luna to young sophomore wide receiver Jacob Ruiz who put on some shifty moves on his way to pay dirt with 9:55 showing on the third quarter clock.
