Eagle Pass Sports Central has been authorized by Eagle Pass Eagles varsity head baseball coach Reynol Mendoza to announce that for the first time in the program’s 98 year old storied history, two Eagle Pass Eagles varsity baseball players have been selected to the prestigious Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association all-state team in the same year. Junior standout pitcher/outfielder Rey Rey Mendoza was selected to the all-state first team as an outfielder and senior shortstop Dee Andre Torres was selected to the all-state second team. **Editor’s Note: there have only been a handful of Eagle Pass Eagles varsity baseball players to have earned all-state honors by either the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association or the Texas Sports Writers Association. Rolando Surita (1970), Rodolfo Rodriguez (1974) and David Chisum (1988) were selected to the UIL All-State Tournament team. I will release the names of the six players who have earned all-state honors at a later date. Rey Rey Mendoza, Dee Andre Torres and Isaiah Zavala pitcher from Southwest who was selected to the all-state third team were the only three members from District 29-6A to earn THSBCA all-state honors.
