Eagles stomp over

United South Panthers 10 to 2

Dee Andre Torres goes 5 for 5 at the plate

The Eagle Pass Eagles varsity baseball team mentored by head coach Reynol Mendoza and assistant coaches Henry Silva and Chris Villa currently tied for second place in the district race ventured to Laredo, Texas on Friday, April 13, 2018 to battle against the Laredo United South Panthers in a 7:00 PM District 29-6A baseball diamond encounter at the Laredo United ISD Student Activity Center.

 

The visiting Eagle Pass Eagles quickly took the lead in this game with a lone run in the top of the very first inning with pitcher and leadoff batter Rey Rey Mendoza reached on a hit by pitch, courtesy runner Kristian Barcena advanced to second on a wild pitch, Dee Andre Torres who would finish the night with a phenomenal performance at the plate came through with an RBI single to drive in Kristian Barcena with the first run of the game.

However the home standing United South Panthers countered with a lone run of their in the bottom of the first inning to knot up the score at one run apiece on a one out double, a sacrifice bunt and an RBI single but that would prove to be they only damage they would muster off of Eagles starting and eventual game winning hurler who went six complete innings allowing just one run scattered three base hits and registered seven strikeouts in this game.

In the top of the third the Eagles broke the one all tie with a three run production with Victor Perry leading off the frame with a walk, with one out Rey Rey Mendoza blasting an RBI triple to bring home Victor Perry, Dee Andre Torres followed with an RBI double to tally courtesy runner Kristian Barcena, Torres then promptly stole third, Braulio Rodriguez drew a walk to put runners at first and third, with two outs Christian Del Bosque drew a base on balls to load the bases for Hector Montoya who also drew a walk enabling Dee Andre Torres to trot home to give the Eagles a 4 to 1 lead over the Panthers.

In the top of the fourth the Eagles extended their lead with a lone run with Rey Rey Mendoza connecting with a two out single, courtesy runner Kristian Barcena advanced to second on a wild pitch, Dee Andre Torres continued to swing a red hot bat with an RBI single to bring home Kristian Barcena to give the Eagles a 5 to 1 led.

In the top of the sixth the Eagles continued their scoring assault with a three run output with Victor Perry leading of the frame with a walk Isaac Gonzalez followed with a double, Rey Rey Mendoza delivered Victor Perry home with a sacrifice fly to centerfield, Dee Andre Torres belted his fourth hit of this game, Braulio Rodriguez connected with a single, Dee Andre Torres and Braulio Rodriguez would eventually come around to score to give the Eagles a comfortable 8 to 1 lead over the Panthers.

In the top of the seventh the Eagles closed out their scoring production with a pair of runs with David Lopez leading off the frame with a single and taking second on a wild pitch, Rey Rey Mendoza followed with a double to put runners and second and third, David Lopez then came home courtesy of a balk and courtesy runner Kristian Barcena advancing to third on the play, Dee Andre Torres then closed out a perfect 5 for 5 performance at the plate with his fourth RBI of the game on an RBI single to bring home Kristian Barcena with the 10th run of the game for the Eagles.

In the bottom half of the seventh inning Edward Mendoza took over the pitching chores for the Eagles where he surrendered a lone run before he retired the final batter of this game on a harmless comebacker to the mound to give the Eagles the convincing 10 to 2 victory. The victory improves the Eagles’ district record to 8-3 to take sole possession of second place in district play as Laredo United fell to San Antonio Southwest by the final score of 5 to 4.
