Lady Eagles romp over

Laredo LBJ 16 to 1

The Eagle Pass Lady Eagles varsity girls’ softball team kicked off the second round of district action on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 when they hosted the Laredo LBJ Wolves in a 7:00 PM District 29-6A softball matchup at the Eagle Pass ISD Student Activity Center softball field. The visiting Lady Wolves ventured into this matchup with a 1-7 district record but were coming off a huge victory over the Laredo United Lady Longhorns. The mighty Eagle Pass Lady Eagles entered with a 5-3 district mark and tied for third place in the district race along with the Laredo Alexander Lady Bulldogs.

The home standing Lady Eagles quickly set the tone for this game with a big five run out put in the home half of the very first inning with Heather Ruiz reached on an error. Leslie Martinez reached safely on an error enabling Heather Ruiz to score on the play, Brooke Diaz was also issued a base on balls, Kaylynne Ruiz followed with a single but Leslie Martinez was thrown out at third on the play, Alexandra Martinez then cleared the bases booming a three run home run tallying courtesy runner Paola Daniel and Kaylynne Ruiz ahead of her, Janessa Garza singled and later tallied the fifth run of the frame to give the Lady Eagles a 5 to 0 lead over the Lady Wolves.

In the top of the second the Lady Wolves tallied what would prove to be their only run of this game to make the score 5 to 1 in favor of the mighty Eagle Pass Lady Eagles. In the home half of the second the Lady Eagles blew this game wide open erupting with a huge nine run production with Kayla Ochoa leading of the frame drawing a walk and showcased her speed by stealing second and third respectively, Heather Ruiz and Leslie Martinez drew back to back walks to load the bases, team leading RBI producer once again came through with a two RBI single to drive in Kayla Ochoa and Heather Ruiz, Kaylynne Ruiz singled to bring home Leslie Martinez, Alexandra Martinez stroked an RBI single to bring home courtesy runner Paola Daniel, Janessa Garza belted an RBI single to drive in Alexandra Martinez, the inning culminated with pinch hitter Emily Snyder connecting with a solid two RBI double to bring home Kayla Ochoa and Heather Ruiz to give the Lady Eagles a comfortable 14 to 1 lead.

The Lady Eagles then brought an early conclusion to this contest tacking on a pair of runs in the third to enforce the 15-run rule on the Lady Wolves by the final score of 16 to 1 with Alyssa Galvan earning the pitching victory hurling four complete innings allowing just one run and scattering five base hits in this game.
