The Eagle Pass Eagles varsity baseball team mentored by head coach Reynol Mendoza and assistant coaches Henry Silva and Chris Villa ventured to Laredo, Texas on Thursday, February 22, 2018 to compete in the annual highly competitive 50 team Border Olympics Baseball Tournament.

The Eagles had a productive showing at the Border Olympics winning two of their four games but one of their losses could just as easily have been a victory if not for a costly error which allowed the game tying and game winning runs to score. The entire Eagles pitching staff got in some quality work on the mound as they continue to sharpen their skills for the upcoming district diamond battles. The team also got some quality experience at the plate, on the field and on the base paths.

The Eagles opened pool play with a matchup against the Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial Eagles in a game that was tied at two runs apiece through three complete inning of play until Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial broke the game wide open with a seven run output in the top of the fourth to go on to take a 10 to 2 victory over the Eagle Pass Eagles who were limited to four hits in this game.

Game 2 pitted the Eagle Pass Eagles against the Burleson Elks. This low scoring game saw the Eagles hold a 2 to1 lead into the top of the fifth frame when the Eagles committed very costly error that allowed the game tying and game winning run to score giving the Elks a slim 3 to 2 victory over the Eagles who deserved a much better fate.

The Eagles regrouped on Friday to battle the Brownsville Veterans Memorial Chargers on Friday Night in a game that resembled a scene from the Twilight Zone as the game was played under a very heavy and dense fog that covered the entire outfield that wrecked havoc on the outfielders as they vainly attempted to locate even the routine fly balls but the proud Eagle Pass Eagles prevailed in this game by the final score of 5 to 1.

In their fourth and final game of the tournament the Eagle Pass Eagles took the field on Saturday morning to take on the Donna Redskins. The Eagles brought out the big bats and strapped on their hitting shoes as they erupted with a 14 run production on 8 base hits to defeat the Redskins by the convincing score of 14 to 2 to improve their overall season record to 3-2.
