Lady Eagles topple the
Uvalde Lobos 9 to 2

The highly touted Eagle Pass Lady Eagles varsity girls’ softball team inaugurated the program’s 25th season in their storied history on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 by hosting the Uvalde Lobos in a 7:00 PM season opening non-district diamond encounter at the Eagle Pass High School softball field in front of the Loyal Legion of Lady Eagles faithful in attendance.
The home standing Lady Eagles opened up the scoring with a pair of runs in the home half of the second inning Kaylynne Ruiz led off the frame with a double, Elena De Alba reached on an error to drive in Kaylynne Ruiz with the first run of the game and the 2018 season, Elena De Alba stole third and Karina Ruiz stroked an RBI sacrifice fly to center to bring home Elena De Alba to give the Lady Eagles the early 2 to 0 lead.
The Lady Eagles extended their lead with a lone run in the bottom of the third inning with Heather Ruiz drawing a base on balls, with one out Kaylynne Ruiz connected with an RBI single to tally Heather Ruiz. The Lady Eagles then padded their lead with another lone run in the bottom of the fourth with Karina Ruiz leading off the frame with a single, Lee Ann Dunn followed with a single, Karina Ruiz stole third and Lee Ann Dunn advanced to second on an error, with one out stroked an RBI double to bring home Karina Ruiz to give the Lady Eagles a 4 to 0lead in this game.
Meanwhile Lady Eagles’ standout fire balling starting pitcher Kaitlin Galvan was simply dominant inside the circle hurling a shutout in her five innings of work allowing just two harmless hits and registered four strikeouts to earn the victory.
The Lady Eagles rewarded starting hurler Kaitlin Galvan’s pitching performance with a big five run production in the bottom of the fifth inning to seal the eventual outcome of this contest. Heather Ruiz ignited the rally with a hit by pitch, pinch hitter Janessa Garza belted a single, Lorelei Morales loaded the bases with a walk, pinch hitter Emily Snyder came through with an RBI single to bring home Heather Ruiz, Karina Ruiz stroked a two RBI double to drive in Janessa Garza and Lorelei Morales, with two outs pinch Hitter Lashay Reyes blasted a two RBI single to bring home Emily Snyder and Karina Ruiz to give the Lady Eagles a comfortable 9 to 0 lead over the Lobos,
The Uvalde Lobos averted shutout tallying lone runs in the top of the sixth and top of the seventh off of the Lady Eagles relief hurlers but the proud Lady Eagles took the victory by the final score of 9 to 2 much to the delight of the Loyal Legion of Lady Eagles faithful in attendance.
