Laredo LBJ 16 to 7

The C.C. Winn Lady Mavericks varsity girls team mentored by head coach J.J. Iracheta, Jr. and assistant coaches Tony Martinez, Johnny Hernandez, Corina Benavides and Sergio Esquivel continued their preseason softball diamond scrimmage schedule on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 by hosting the Laredo LBJ Lady Wolves in a 7:00 PM matchup at the Eagle Pass ISD Student Activity Center softball field.

The visiting Lady Wolves members of the tough District 29-6A managed to take the early lead in this contest by plating a lone run in the top of the first inning but that lead was quickly wiped away as the talented home standing Lady Mavericks erupted with a huge 12 run production in the bottom half of the first inning.

Martha Garcia led off the frame reaching on an error, Kiana Diaz sacrificed her over to send Ariana Soto drew a base on balls, power hitting Lady Mavs catcher then blasted a two RBI double to drive in Martha Garcia and pinch runner Ana Lopez, Jasmin Ballones drew a walk and Daniela Rodriguez stroked a single, Thiana Reyes reached safely on a fielder’s choice’ Amt Flores got on an error allowing two runners to score on the play, Kayla Sifuentes connected with a two RBI double to bring home Thiana Reyes and courtesy runner Kaytlyn Amaya, Anissa Salazar was hit by a pitch, Martha Garcia belted a two RBI double to drive in a pair of runs, Kiana Diaz reached on an error, Ariana Soto connected with an RBI ground out, Briana Soto belted a single and Daniela Rodriguez drove in the final run of the inning with an RBI single.

The Lady Mavericks padded their lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second with Anissa Salazar hitting a two out single, Martha Garcia followed with a titanic two run homerun to extend the Lady Mavericks lead to 14 to1 over the Lady Wolves. The Lady Wolves narrowed their deficit with a lone run in the third and a five run output in the fourth but the proud Lady Mavericks closed the show with another two run production in the home half of the fifth inning to come away with the well earned 16 to 7 victory. Amy Flores, Ariana Soto and Angie Escamilla shared the pitching duties for the Lady Mavericks.
