Mavericks move to District 14-5A

Eagles stay in District 29-6A

The long awaited and much anticipated announcement coming out of Region 20 in San Antonio Texas early Thursday, February 1, 2018 of the UIL 2018-2020 realignment and reclassification news came through the Eagle Pass Sports Central 24 hour sports ticker. Just as predicted by Eagle Pass Sports Central sports writer Conrado Perez, Jr. back in late November , the C.C. Winn Mavericks will now compete in District 14-5A in football only and compete in the Class 5A big school division.  All of the other sports will compete in District 28-5A against the likes of Medina Valley, Floresville, Harlandale, Southside, Harlan, Southwest, Southwest Legacy, Somerset and Uvalde.  The Eagle Pass Eagles will remain in District 29-6A.

The Mavericks under the direction of head football coach Eric Villasenor will be competing against the likes of the San Antonio Harlandale Indians, San Antonio McCollum Cowboys as well as new district opponents Laredo Martin Tigers, San Antonio Southwest Dragons, San Antonio Southwest Legacy Titans and San Antonio Harlan Hawks for the district football title in Districy 14-5A title.  The Mavericks 2018 non-district opponents will include the Crystal City Javelinas, Uvalde Coyotes, Eagle Pass Eagles and Pearsall Mavericks.

The Eagle Pass Eagles mentored by head football coach Tom Gonzalez will compete against the likes of the Del Rio Rams, Laredo LBJ Wolves, Laredo Alexander Bulldogs, Laredo United South Panthers, Laredo United Longhorns as well as new member the Laredo Nixon Mustangs for the district crown.  The Eagles non-district opponents will be the Uvalde Coyotes, the Southwest Dragons as well as the C.C. Winn Mavericks.

The famed Maverick Nation as well as the Loyal Legion of Eagles faithful along with the entire community of Eagle Pass, Texas and the abundant of local coffee shop quarterback clubs are buzzing with enthusiasm for the start of the 2018 Texas High School football season one that promises to be quite a thriller and highly competitive.
