The C.C. Winn High School Lady Mavericks varsity girls basketball team under the direction of new head girls basketball coach Paulo Valero inaugurated the 2017-2018 hoops campaign of Saturday, November 4, 2017 by entertaining the Dilley Lady Wolves in a 2:00 PM non-district hard court matchup at the C.C. Winn High School gymnasium.
The home standing Lady Mavericks came out of their pregame warm-up ritual red hot scorching the nets on the offensive side of the court shooting a whopping 50% from beyond the three-point arc to take a commanding 23 to 6 lead at the end of the opening period and never looked back
Equally productive was the Lady Mavericks quick footed defensive scheme that employed strangle hold on the visiting Lady Wolves forcing a total of 41 turnovers recorded 34 steals and snared a total of 46 rebounds in this game. The Lady Mavericks to a sizeable 40 to 20 lead over the Lady Wolves into their halftime locker room break.
The second half of this season opening encounter was a near carbon copy of the first half as the Lady Mavericks held the Lady Wolves scoreless in the entire third period on their way to outscoring the Lady Wolves 31to 6 in the second half to come away with the convincing 71 to 26 victory. A total of 12 players scored points for the victorious Lady Mavericks led by Giselle Rangel who pumped in a team and game high 17 points. Andrea Aldape led the team in the rebounding department with an even dozen boards. Lady Mavericks girls coaching staff selected Ashley Cruz as the Player of the Game.
