The C.C. Winn Mavericks varsity football team under the leadership of head football coach Eric Villasenor return to the friendly confines of Eagle Pass ISD Student Activity Center Cozel Foster Veterans Memorial Stadium this coming Friday night October 18, 2019 to host the current district leading San Antonio Harlan Hawks in a 7:30 PM gridiron matchup, The visiting Harlan Hawks who are currently ranked 4th in the Sub-6A division in the greater San Antonio area will enter this game with an unblemished overall season record of 6-0 and a district mark of 2-0 while the home standing Mavericks will come in with an overall season record of 3-4 and a district mark of 1-2.

The visiting Harlan Hawks under the guidance of head coach Eddie Salas will showcase a very formidable offense led by their dynamic backfield duo of the multi=talented quarterback Kannon Williams #1 by far their best player who will scramble and throw on the run and will run the ball very well on keepers. Joining him in the backfield with be Aubrey McDade #2 their most explosive player very shifty and hits the hole and runs hard. The Rhino back will be Nathan Ruiz #41 not a very good blocker but will take you to the play is substituted for by Elias Gonzalez #47. The Hawks talented receiving corps will feature Ethan Esparza #11 their smallest receiver as the X-Receiver that will run the deep routes, Eumari Massey #5 as the Wing their least targeted receiver who likes to run the underneath routes, Jacory Logan #6 as the Slot Back their most explosive receiver likes to run both deep and underneath routes and is very fast with the ball and Kamali Anderson #85 as the Z-Receiver who is their most targeted receiver and is their tallest receiver.

The Hawks offensive line will be comprised by Marco Sifuentes #63 at right tackle, John Salazar #67 at right guard, Phillip Su’e #59 at center, Luis Lopez #65 at left guard and Angel Leon #58 at left tackle.

The C.C. Winn Mavericks will counter with their predominately potent ground oriented offensive game scheme that features their talented backfield duo of quarterback Jose Padilla and Ethan Johnston as the featured premier running back. Since switching over from quarterback to tailback Ethan Johnston has rushed for 462 yards and average of 154 yards per game with 4 rushing touchdowns during the Mavs 3 district games. When the Mavericks take to the airway the Mavericks utilize the services of a pair of fast and elusive sure handed wide receivers in the likes of the very dependable duo of Joe Garza and Ernesto Vasquez. The Mavericks also employ their strong fullback/tight end Carlos Soto in both their passing and running game. The Mavericks big and strong offensive line comprised of Jaime Rodriguez, Adrian Munoz, Daniel Ruiz, Miguel Nino, Juan Guerra as well as tight end Carlos Soto will need to circle the wagons and get set to attack and dominate the line of scrimmage to turn their running game loose into the secondary enroute to pay dirt.

Defensively the Mavericks famed quick pursuing and hard hitting squad with Axel Rodriguez, Jose Hinojosa, Alejandro Ontiveros, and Isaias Flores anchoring the all important front line who are well known to be one of the toughest defensive squads to try and run the ball against will be armed and ready to hold the Hawks rushing and passing game in check. The Mavericks talented line backing unit comprised of Jared Roiz, Alex Chris Garcia, Noe Castillon as well as Michael Farris and Lee Roy Alvarez are geared to apply their relentless pressure scheme and inflict their punishing tackles. The Mavericks swarming defensive secondary crew of Eric Sanchez, Gilberto Vasquez, Argenis Gonzalez and Andrew Vasquez will be severely tested but they will always accept the challenge of providing excellent blanket coverage and will once again be more than ready to limit the Hawks passing game as well as provide run support when needed. Last season the Mavericks defense held the potent high powered Harlan Hawks offense to a microscopic total of 6 yards rushing for the entire game.

Eagle Pass Sports Central wishes the C.C. Winn Mavericks the very best of luck against the San Antonio Harlan Hawks and invite the entire famed Maverick Nation as well as the entire community of Eagle Pass, Texas to come out to the stadium this coming Friday night and support the mighty C.C. Winn Mavericks varsity football team. GO MAVERICKS! BEAT THE HAWKS!
