Lady Mavericks defeat

S.A. Southside 6 to 4

The C.C. Winn Lady Mavericks traveling show under the direction of head softball coach J.J. Iracheta and assistant coaches Tony Martinez, Johnny Hernandez, Corina Escontrias and Mayda Herrra hit the road of Friday, March 6, 2020 with a trip to San Antonio’ Texas to tangle with the Southside Lady Cardinals in a 7:00 PM District 28-5A softball diamond encounter.

The home standing Lady Cardinals took the early lead in this game with a three-run output in the home half of the second inning on three hits and a pair of Lady Mavericks The errors. Pride of Southern Maverick County the mighty Lady Mavericks quickly countered with a game tying three run production in the top of the third with Thiana Reye belting a single, Mia Uriegas drew a walk, Briana Soto reached on an error enabling Thiana Reyes and Mi Uriegas to score on the play, Larissa Jacquez belted an RBI single to bring home Briana Soto with the game tying run.

In the top of the fourth the Lady Mavericks broke up the three all tie and took the lead for good with another three run out put with Ari Benavides leading off the frame with a solid single, with one out Thiana Reyes laid down a sacrifice bunt, with two outs Mia Uriegas came through with an RBI single to bring home Ari Benavides, Briana Soto blasted an RBI double to bring hoe Mia Uriegas. Ariana Soto followed with an RBI single to drive in Briana Soto giving the Lady Mavericks a 6 to 3 lead in this game.

The Lady Cardinals could only answer with a lone unearned run in the bottom of the fifth, but it was not enough as the Lady Mavericks came away with the well earned 6 to 4 victory to improve their district record to an unblemished 3-0 mark. Larissa Jacquez earned the pitching victory.
