The much anticipated 14th annual Texas High School football game which in reality is nothing more than just the next game on the schedule between the C.C. Winn Mavericks under the leadership of head football coach Eric Villasenor and the Eagle Pass Eagles under the guidance of head football coach Tom Gonzalez.

The annual gridiron match-up of our two high schools will take center stage on Friday, September 13, 2019 with a 7:00 PM non-district gridiron encounter at the Eagle Pass ISD Student Activity Center Cozel Foster-Veterans Memorial Stadium. A record setting crowd is expected to attend to witness the latest edition of his matchup between the two local high school football programs including the Loyal Legion of Eagles faithful as well as the famed Maverick Nation ready to support their respective team. Throughout its history the matchup between the Eagles and Mavericks has produced some truly hardnosed heavy hitting brand of football as well as given us some memorable moments and this year’s edition should be no exception.

The C.C. Winn Mavericks who will venture into this game as the the designated visiting team and sporting an overall season record of 1-1 while the home standing Eagle Pass Eagles will enter this game sporting an identical season record of 1-1. The intangibles for winning this contest could very well be execution, ball control, field possession turnovers as well as who can dominate the trenches at the line of scrimmage both offensively and defensively and less not forget good old fashion Lady Luck.

This game should provide some intriguing matchups with the likes of the Eagle Pass Eagles youthful offensive line of Arnie Perez, Emmanuel Jimenez, David Cortez, Emmanuel Balderas and Alex Martinez battling in the trenches against the C.C. Winn Mavericks veteran fast and quick pursuing defensive front six of Axel Rodriguez, Jose Hinojosa, Jose Anzures, Alejandro Ontiveros, Alex Chris Garcia and Jared Roiz. Another key matchup will pit the Eagles aggressive and hard hitting defensive front seven of Santana Martinez, MJ McGehee, Andres Conde, Charlie Schuessler, Joe Samaniego, Jacob Salinas and Saul Peralez going head to head against the Mavericks experienced and big offensive line of Jaime Rodriguez, Adrian Munoz, Daniel Ruiz, Miguel Nino and Juan Guerra.

But perhaps the most vital matchups in this contest will feature the C.C. Winn Mavericks talented backfield duo of quarterback Ethan Johnston who is quite a threat when he runs the ball and the tough running and elusive tailback Ethan Cazares along with the sure handed and swift receiving corps of Ernesto Vasquez, Michael Olivo, Mathew De Alba, Joe Garza and Armando Yebra squaring off against the Eagle Pass Eagles defensive secondary of Kristian Barcena, David Lopez, Mando De Los Santos and Isaac Caballero. The Eagles equally talented backfield duo of dual threat quarterback Allan Rodriguez who is a good runner when he keeps the ball and is pretty accurate with the short to intermediate passes and the big tailback Jose Hernandez who certainly has breakaway speed as well as the sure handed and speedy receiving corps of Dakota Kypuros, David Lopez, Chris Hiller, Carlos Santos, and Cgc Ritchie tangling against the Mavericks swarming defensive secondary unit of Gilberto Vasquez, Andrew Vasquez, Argenis Gonzalez, Maximus Contreras and Eric Sanchez. So let’s get ready for some hardnosed high spirited Texas High School football South Texas style.
