Mavericks poised to gore the

Crystal City Javelinas

14th All-Time Season Opener

The Pride of Southern Maverick County the C.C. Winn Mavericks varsity football team under the leadership of head football coach Eric Villasenor will kick-off their 2019 Texas High School football season on Friday, August 30, 2019 when they entertain the Crystal City Javelinas in a 7:30 PM non-district gridiron matchup at the Eagle Pass ISD Student Activity Center Cozel Foster-Veterans Memorial Stadium in a game that has also been designated as Parent’s night with the Mavericks players honoring their respective parent(s) during pregame festivities. This game marks the program’s 14th all-time season opener.

The visiting Crystal City Javelinas under the tutelage of head football coach David Lopez will enter this season opener with the services of 5 offensive and 6 defensive starters from an area finalist squad that culminated last season with an overall record of 8-4. Leading the Javelinas Pro-I offensive attack will be the veteran backfield trio of quarterback John Saucedo #7 and tailbacks Justin Bonilla #11 and Javier Martinez #25. Wide Receiver Carlos Martinez #3 will be their main threat in their passing game scheme. The other two receivers will be Adrian Zavala #10 a shifty small receiver that likes to run underneath routes and Rudy Villanueva #15 who does get open and prefers the deep routes. Offensive lineman Alfonso Mata #52 will lead the men in the trenches.

The Javelinas Basic-50 defensive unit will feature a strong defensive secondary quartet of Nathaniel Mata #5, Robert Flores #4, Rudy Villanueva #15 and Martin Lopez #22 with Juan Urrabazo #59 and Kevin Perez #54 anchoring the defensive front line.

The home standing Mavericks offensive squad mentored by offensive coordinator Heriberto Roiz will feature their stellar three year starting quarterback Ethan Johnston #2 as the starting signal caller with Juan Pablo Ramirez #32 and Ethan Casares #24 as the featured running backs, Joe Garza II #3 as the Wing Back, Mathew De Alba #4 as the Slot Back, Ernesto Vasquez #13 as the X-Receiver and Michael Olivo #11 as the Z-Receiver. The Mavericks offensive line will be comprised by veteran Jaime Rodriguez #73 at Left Tackle, Adrian Munoz #75 as the Left Guard, Daniel Ruiz #50 at Center, Miguel Nino #77 as the Right Guard and Juan Guerra #72 as the Right Tackle. Emanuel Oviedo #65 will handle the punting chores for the Mavericks with Almikar Ramos #12 and Mario Contreras #5 sharing the placekicking duties.

The famed hard hitting and quick pursuing Mavericks defense under the guidance of co-head defensive coordinators Saul Salas and Rene Ramirez will have Axel Rodriguez #42 as the Right Defensive End, Jose Hinojosa #43 as the Left Defensive End, Jose Anzures as the Right Defensive Tackle, Alejandro Ontiveros #94 as the Left Defensive Tackle, standout Alex Chris Garcia #33 as the Mike Linebacker, Jared Roiz #6 as the Buck Linebacker with Gilbert Vasquez #20 as the Right Corner, Andrew Vasquez #22 as the Left Corner, Argenis Gonzalez #21 as the Weak Safety, Maximus Contreras #36 as the Strong Safety and Eric Sanchez #15 as the Free Safety.
